Charters and Pictures, July 16 - Aug 5th « Thread Started on Aug 15, 2009, 2:46pm »
It’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to put a report up, so I’ll try to do a quick catch-up on what’s been happening with Lake Champlain Angler Charters.
My last report was in mid-July. I’ve been very busy with fishing charters. I also spent the past five days in Portland, Maine getting my US Coast Guard AB Unlimited Merchant Mariners Z Card. Between shuttling tourists and hikers to Valcour Island, a handful of towing and salvage jobs, and my part time deck work for The Lake Champlain Transportation Co (the ferry) the gaps were filled in and I have not had a day off the water since July 9th.
Many thanks to the following clients who booked their fishing outings with Lake Champlain Angler Charters! I’ll add a few highlights…
On July 16th, Dave and David W., from Colorado, and Kevin and Jackie C., from Florida caught several mid summer lake trout while dragging bottom with lake trolls. Then we spent a few hours around Valcour Island casting for bass and pike. We’ve had more productive trips but the modest lake trout bite made the trip a success and the kids and their dads had a great time visiting Lake Champlain.
Jim T. from Plattsburgh and his brother Chris, from Albany, fished with me on July 18th and they caught a good number of large northern pike and several largemouth bass on spinner baits and spoons. Sadly, we all left our cameras on shore. The cell phone photos just don’t do the big pike they caught justice.
I trailered south to fish with Bob K. near Button Bay on the 20th of July. We caught some beautiful largemouth and smallmouth bass mostly drop shotting and throwing crank baits. Here’s a nice pair caught that day…
On July 21st I did a joint charter with Captain Randy LaValley of Relax-n-Reel Charters hosting Steve S. and his group of anglers. The younger guys went with me and we caught plenty of bass and pike on spinner baits and red eye wobblers to make the day a great success. Here’s a nice smallie caught that day by Jeff…
George D and his son-in-law joined me on the 22nd. These guys were primarily interested in bass fishing and we got some nice ones throwing tubes and spinnerbaits including this smallmouth caught by George….
Harrison F. brought his brother and friends along on a birthday charter on July 24th. We went after lakers for the first hour until one of the boys started feeling a little queasy. With one trout under our belt we shifted to warmwater species and managed to get the grand slam, boating a bunch more pike, pickerel, smallmouth and largemouth bass. This is a shot of the birthday boy with a nice smallmouth…
I picked up Seth M and his crew at the Malletts Bay launch on the 25th of July and we went bass and pike fishing on the Inland Sea and around Mallett’s Bay on a breezy Saturday. We caught plenty of bass, mostly smallmouth, on crank baits and various rubber baits, as well as a few nice pike including this one…
On July 27th I hosted return client Gerry B. and his wife Sue from NH. It was a birthday gift for Sue from Gerry. We started with lakers but were quickly blown off toward warm water areas to target largemouth and pike. We landed plenty of fish on this outing including this nice largemouth caught by the birthday girl…
I hosted West Virginians Keith M and his friends Ray and Ray’s son Carl from July 28th through August 1st. We had five great days of fishing and caught some very nice fish over the period. One smallmouth we landed went 4 pounds 5 ounces. We also got caught ourselves; in that thunder and wind storm that several of the other forum members experienced and wrote about. Here are the best four pictures from those five extended outings…
Ken S. from PA chartered with me on August 3rd along with his dad Ken Sr. and son Ben. We targeted bass and pike and boated 20 northerns over all and several largemouth and smallmouth bass. It was 15 year old Ben’s first fishing outing. He landed 8 pike for the day including this lengthy toothy critter…
On August 4th the south wind blew yet again and we headed for cover on the Vermont side with Bill D. aboard. It was another birthday charter from Bill’s son Ted. My son, Marshall, came along with us to help out and together we landed loads of bass and pike over the course of the day. Here’s a shot of a decent sized fish Bill caught…
Ryan S and his buddies went pike fishing with us on the Inland Sea on August 5th. We brought 25 northern pike to the boat and missed a bunch more. Our special spinner baits did the trick on this outing. Jeff K won the pool with the largest pike, a 9 plus pounder caught on the last cast of the day…
