New to the forum but avid reader...Where is a good spot to go for early 16.5April ice out salmon and rainbow fishing. I fish down in Winnepausakee and do well on the landlocks as soon as the ice is out and the CT lakes later, but i'd like to start fishing the salmon in Champlain, we've got a 16.5' with a 25 on it, 1 downrigger, lead core. Common tactics in CT lakes is to fish the mouths of the rivers. Thanks for the insight.

Have you fished Champlain before? Do you have a geographic area in mind? Your rig will work anywhere as long as the winds cooperate. I'd suggest the mouths of the rivers early, then the inland sea off the sand bar. Shelburne Bay and Converse Bay are good spots also.
Good luck!

First of all welcome to site as you probably already know it's a great forum and also a great bunch of guys.
Tim gave you some good advice and usually the Inland sea/Sandbar and Converse are your best bets.

The sandbar is open out to cedar island as of this morning. The launch is still packed in, but I think within a day or two it should be open, or will be accessible from the Lamoille river launch as the South side is sinking quickly as well.....I'm sure there will be a report when all the launches are opened up...this crew is on it, and great at sharing info.....Welcome aboard......

Thanks for the welcome guys very home like. Tomorrow I'm planning to head up to the mouth of the Winooski, I guess? to try and fish from the shore. Given the weather condition plans have changed but i'd like to get out early and probably grab a few suckers maybe and throw them out there or a shiner, any spots better than others. I've fished to the north of north beach before and got a salmon but that was back in the day....Any suggestions, Anyone need a fishing buddy for the morning... Thanks for all the help

The iron Bridge on the bike path at the railroad fill north of the Winooski is always a good bet for laker's and Salmon. If casting spoons try to choose the ones you can cast a country mile. The further you can cast it the better you will be. Also fishing with minnows on a slender bob is also effective out there right now. If you use a regular round bobber the fish will feel the resistance and spit it before you can get a hook into them. Good Luck. Capt. Tony www.anbradoncharters.com
