 Charters 5/26 5/27 Pictures
« Thread Started on May 27, 2009, 7:07pm »

Had a great time out on a six hour charter on May 26th with retired MAJ Roger A. Schmidt, his sons Todd and Steve, and grandson Brandon. Roger is also a retired commercial pilot who flew with Sully, the pilot who crash landed his jet safely on the Hudson this year. The crew managed to get 7 lakers to the boat in three hours. Then we headed off to Malletts Bay and landed two Browns to top off the day. I was honored to have the guys on board. Hats off to Roger for his service and to Brandon who is a recent West Point Grad.

Here's Brandon's best laker...

Our outing on the 27th was cut short by a heavy south wind. Dave Harnish and his son Josh hung in there for three hours before we called it an early day. The biggest fish was landed by Josh...

Our lakers are still coming off the bottom in 50 -70 feet of water with lake trolls. To see one of our favorite color trolls, check the top left corner of the picture of Brandon's fish.

Also wanted to alert anglers to some recent bad news... It seems Federal ear-marked funding for cormorant control is in jeopardy. President Obama's budget plan leaves out funding for controling this nuisance.

Capt:

We don't need funding ... just open season! Maybe the powers to be in Fish & Game will choose that as the only available solution left!

Gorgeous fish, and thanks for the colour tip...

The Feds just need to get out of our way on the Cormorant Issue...

Anyone know of any ways to marinate these Italian ducks and make them taste good?

Breast them out, and roast them with strips of bacon...

Cool, and slice...

Toast a crunchy roll, slather with taragon mayo, add sauteed mushrooms and a slice of swiss cheese...

Nuke for 20 seconds...

Serve with a pickle and chips...

Mmmmm...

Cormorant...

It's what's for supper...

I see that you're fishing Mallets Bay. I hope your clients are getting their VT license for fishing over here...

That is a good question. First do you need a VT license to fish this area? Second If you are a charter captain are you and your clients exempt? And lastly are charter captains required to check licenses of their guests? I have been on charters and never was asked for my license. But if I was fishing on a charter boat and was taken into different licensed waters by the captain. Who would be liable for it?

If my clients are fishing Malletts, the Inland Sea or other inland waters like tribs etc. of Vermont they must have a Vermont License. I have both. I usually tell non resident guests to get the Vermont version as it covers all the main lake of NY and VT except South Bay. There is a link from my site to both State Agencies to buy them on-line.

Reeldrag, You must have a Vermont license to fish Mallets Bay and the Inland sea. So if you are from out of State you are better off buying a VT license. Then you can fish the entire Inland sea as well as the NY side of the broad lake. Except for South Bay. As a charter Captain I am responsible for making sure my clients are properly licensed. If not they would be in violation as well as myself. Another thing to remember is that VT And NY have different laws so be sure to check them before you head out. Good luck.

Capt. Tony
