Charters June 2,3,4,8 and Rotary w/pics

We have done several charters since our last thread so I’ll catch up in one sweeping group report which will include last weeks charters, what we did in the Rotary Derby this past weekend, and reports from yesterday’s two outings.

On June 2nd I hosted Russians Gene and Sylvia from the Bronx in New York City. We managed to get good numbers of lake trout while trolling the bottom in 50-70 feet of water around Valcour Island. Here’s a good picture of Sylvia with a trout weighing nearly 9 pounds…

On June 3rd I took Gene out again, this time for bass and pike. We did quite well in a few weedy shallow water locations in the Inland Sea and along the Alburg Tongue. We landed a number of pike including one over 7 pounds and some respectable largemouth too. Many came on brass and red skirted spinnerbaits. The last few hours were spent targeting smallies on beds with tubes. We caught a good number of fish along the shoreline just north of the Gut, including this decent smallie…

On June 4th we went out with returning client, Andre, a passionate quadriplegic angler, and his buddy Ford. We boated a number of nice lake trout early and then trolled for salmon and browns for a while. The charter was a success as we had a triple of lakers, a chunky brown, and a salmon that were both about 20 inches long. Lemon/Lime trolls did the trick with the lakers. The salmon came on copper/red Honey Bee and the brown on a Huckleberry Muffin Needlefish. Had a minor issue with what I think was an old power line in Malletts Bay. I hooked a weight on something 28 feet down in about 58 feet of water in front of the Lamoille River. Here are pictures of Andre’s best fish for the day as well as his buddy’s best fish weighing nearly 10 pounds…

I teamed up with Captain Randy LaValley for the Rotary Fishing Derby. “The Left Handed Captain’s”caught loads of lake trout and entered a 10.65 pound fish but it wasn’t enough to make a dent in the point standings. We fished walleye over night on Saturday into Sunday and never got a hit all night. On Sunday we fished the Inland Sea around Ladd’s and then Cedar Island and caught plenty of browns and salmon, but no big fish to pair with our biggest laker. Caught the second dwarf laker I’ve seen this season. Here’s a picture of the strange fish…

Here's the one from back in April...

On day three of the derby Captain LaValley landed a big smallie seen here on a speedy shiner…

On June 8th I did a double of charters. On the first outing I hosted Tom and his mom Betty and Uncle Donald from Australia. We fished for pike and bass from the big boat for the elderly anglers comfort and caught plenty of pike and largemouth bass on spinners, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits and stickbaits. Here’s a shot of a nice pike caught by Tom…

In the afternoon I brought out a return client Doug and his friend Patty for lakers. We started the meter when the trolls hit bottom and had our first fish on in two minutes flat. We hooked up 5 lakers and then went after salmon for a little while in front of the AuSable River, but to no avail. Pat caught the biggest trout but the picture has yet to be sent to me, so I’ll post one of a fish that Doug caught until I get one of Patty’s…

Hello Capt Mick

Great report and I love your photos.

Those dwarf Lakers are neat looking little guys. Is this the first year you have seen these? Could it be because of the alwive feed and that the fish are just getting fat faster?

Thanks for sharing Phil B

My thoughts too. Can a biologist check the scales to age them? ???

Hey Darnet!

I'll tell Randy you said hello. His boat is back up and running. Hope you did well in the Rotary! I recall Randy hailing you over the weekend but you didn't come back.
