Last Week's Charters, Grand Slams « Thread Started on Jun 27, 2009, 8:28pm »
Just catching up with a thread to cover some of the charters I’ve done over the past week or so. There were several fishermen and a fisherlady who caught grand slams this past week. Some photos are pending conveyance by the anglers.
On June 19th I fished with Mark and his son in-law Ron from Ohio We headed out after lake trout for the first hour and then changed tactics hoping to get the guys a grand slam on Lake Champlain. We landed a several lakers near Valcour Island dragging bottom with trolls and then shifted gears to warm water species on the Vermont side. We accomplished our goal and both anglers ended the day with grand slams. Mark caught a handful of largemouth and smallmouth bass, several pike and lake trout. Ron caught a pickerel, some smallmouth bass, one small largemouth and a couple lakers.
I’m building a new LakeChamplainAngler.com Grand Slam page. Please be patient as it is still a work in progress. Below I’ll mention more about some of the other folks also to be featured on this page…
On June 20th and 21st, the first two days of the LCI, I fished with Drew and Tom from New Jersey. I put a nice 10.89 pound northern in the boat first thing Saturday that was still in 10th place by Sunday morning. As I expected it was bumped by about a pound by the end of the derby…
We landed numerous smallmouth bass, a few pike and even a burbot throughout the two days using X Rap slash baits, crank baits, tubes, jigs and drop shot rigs. Here are a couple of other nice fish caught by Tom. The bass was weighed in and tipped the scales at 3.29 pounds…
On June 22nd I fished with Chuck and Paula from Troy, NY. They didn’t have their LCI registrations so we were out of the derby running at this point. It blew like crazy, but we still caught some nice lakers, three browns, a salmon and some smallies.
We fished again on the 24th and did very well. Chuck and Paula also caught grand slams on their final day. Chuck landed a very big laker on the charter that weighed just under 12.5 pounds.
On the 25th and 26th I fished with Dave and Julian from NY City. On their first day we had to work hard for a handful of smallmouth bass. We finally caught some real nice ones in one tight spot out on Cumberland Head and a few more in Treadwell Bay. On the second day we really hammered the bass, pike, pickerel and bowfin. Both Dave and Julian got grand slams on their final day. Here are a pair of dandy bowfin and some nice bass photos If Dave's fish seem a little small its cuz he's a giant at 6' 7"…
