Pike Charters August 23, 25, 26, w/Pics « Thread Started on Aug 27, 2009, 7:03am »
I have been doing a number of pike charters lately and the bigger fish are starting to turn on. Our special tweaked up spinnerbaits are hot! Fished with Gordon F. on August 23rd and together we boated 22 pike and a dozen bass. Here are a couple pictures of our bigger fish from that outing…
On the 25th I hosted Bob D. and his brother-in-law Mike. We fished the north end of the main lake and found some nice pike on a weedy spot off Isle le Motte. Here are two nice ones from that day…
I did an abbreviated gig on the Vermont side with Larry F on the 26th. In spite of the wind we hammered nearly 20 pike along with a good number of largemouth. Here’s a pair from the 26th…

nice fish, when I was a little kid,6 or 7 , my dad took me to otter creek in florence and brandon and we would fish for pike with live bait under a red and white bobber, I'll never forget those big pike,..

nice pics! I have a Q though, in the second to last pic of the guy in the green colored jacket I noticed that the pike had some vertical bars along the top of its back. where all the others have the same horizontal dash kind of pattern from top to belly.
Could that be a hybrid of some type? pike/pickerel? pike/muskie?

Thanks for the report mick. Makes me want to go fishing for them instead of catching accidentally while bass fishing. I got broken off by three fishing in St. Albans Bay yesterday. Bob

Thanks Guys! To answer a few of your questions; The strange marks on the pike in the photo mentioned above are just an anomaly. I have caught hybrids before, but they usually have some hint of the characteristic black teardrop below their eye that pickerel always have. We are catching most of these beauties by casting souped up spinner-baits or Red Eye Wobblers over weed beds I know are holding fish. I use 20# Power Pro braided line as it holds up well and has the diameter of 8# mono. I don't use a leader and rarely break off with the braid.
Caught another bunch yesterday on a four-hour outing with a couple big ones in the mix again. I have another charter tomorrow and will report on yesterday's and tomorrows trips by early in the week. Here's a preview...

Mickey, Nice fish-background looked a little familiar. Used your advice about using spinnerbaits for pike. Its all I threw at them on my Canadian trip last week. Lots of average sized pike- no trophies, but they loved those spinnerbaits. One of my partners used a red spinnerbait with most of the skirt pulled off for walleyes. Caught the biggest of the trip on it. Jim
