Hi Everybody
I look forward all year to fishing in the Rotary Classic. My Dad comes up with Huey, meets me and Cowboy and we spend the weekend in a cabin on the lake. This year the weather was beautiful and the fishing was fantastic! We got settled in the cabin early on Thursday and had time to scout around split rock and Whalens. We didn't land any but we had a couple on and enjoyed a nice evening on the lake and a great Sunset.
We hit the water around 430 Friday morning and headed South looking for some relatively clean, clear water to find some Salmon to catch. Lots of big and small debris everywhere made for a very tricky ride. We set up in Westport for about an hour but the debris and dirty water made it practically unfishable. So we yanked he spread and headed South.

Debris everywhere!
My teammate Phil B called me early in the morning to let me know his first release up North was a Laketrout bouncing 17 POUNDS on the Boga Grip! The behemoth weighed in at 16.95. An unbelievable Rotary Record. The Fattest Laker you will ever see!
We continued south into Bulwagga bay and set the spread among a few other competitors. It wasn't long before the Salmon were jumping behind the boat and we new we were in the right spot. We picked away at fish throughout the morning and in the afternoon the boats cleared out and the fishing was EXPLOSIVE!!! We spent the afternoon playing catch and release with 3 to 5 lb Salmon slamming baits. Repeatedly hammering doubles and triples. It was our pleasure to share the experience with 4 C's, Lazy C's and of course Crazy Ivan. We pulled the spread around 5 and headed North. We stopped at the weigh station on our way home, our biggest Salmon was 4.75. We had a close call on our trip north running into a big plank around Barn Rock. We saw it at the last minute and pulled up and hit it but not too hard. No damage, thank God.

Back on the water at 430 for the long ride back to Bulwagga Bay. Another very nice calm morning for the trip. Again well worth the trip. The big fish were hitting early. 3 fish on the first pass south. We turn around and head north into about 30 boats and weave our way through them. First we nail a 5.25 and then a Salmon that bounced 6 on the Boga. Now we keep fishing and wait for the weigh station to open. Of course Crazy Ivan has to beat us there. Here we go! Gotta love a little friendly competition. We came in at 5 lb 12 oz. I forget what Todd's was but I knew it was smaller. We had our fun at the ramp and I begged Todd for a couple more spoons. Thanks for everything Todd!!!! We were quick to get back to the fishing grounds and target more bigger fish. We had our chance at a big fish a couple hours later but it broke our heart as it jumped several times in the prop wash and snapped the lead between the spoon and mini disc. Oh well we had our chance.
Here is a pic of our morning
The bite slowed down in the afternoon but my dads last fish of the trip was a gorgeous Brownie that tipped the scales at 5.5!
Now it's 5pm and time for a long drive back to camp on a nice calm lake. The old timers were very tired and with a miserable forecast for Sunday decided to head home in the morning. Phil took first with that Crazy Laker and we took first in the team category. Another fantastic Rotary Derby full of great times and wonderful memories.
See you on the Water!
