Out on Au Fer Shoal in about 12' of water about 15 minutes before the sun set. I tossed a 4"silver spoon and as so often happens with the big ones landed it right in his mouth. I began to reel and thought I had put it in a big pickrel weed. Then it hit the surface real fast and rolled. I couldn't get a good look at it and it was back down again feeling like a huge clump of weeds or a tree branch. After five or so minutes I was gaining on it and it hit the top again but still I didn't get a good look as it really never did a tail walk like a bass. Back to the bottom and I began to get it fairly near to the boat and it was gone just like that. I reeled in and found a really twisted up leader, the spoon had one bent hook with another slightly bent. I even had a small wad of weed left behind to remember him by. Oh well, almost and I set hell out of those hooks three separate times. I doubt it was a Pike, felt more like a Muskie with the big dead weight and steady heavy pull. So what do you think it was, Muskie, Bowfin,Gar? I only wish I had gotten a decent look at it.

Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught...
But, I'm betting it wasn't a 6" perch...

I would guess a bowfin. They fight like nothing else.

same exact scenario for me. looked like a pike but was way to big. caught mine on 11 ft rod and could barely get it up. i pulled the hook at the boat when he dove down one last time. im sick about it.
