I need a new tool to weigh fish.
My very old digital Berkley with a hook has finally gone south after many good years of use.
I'm not so sure I want to put out 100 bucks or more for a Boga Grip and I've noticed there are copy cats of the Boga out there. Does anyone have any input on some of the copy cat units that are similar to the Boga?

I have a 15 lb Boga. It works great. I have clamped onto the jaw of a large pike and held it while getting the hooks out. It held the fish while it thrashed around some with no problem. I am still looking for a fish to bottom it out I attached a float to it so if it goes over the side it does not go straight to the bottom. George

I purchased a 15# Boga Grip earlier this year. I really like it. It weighs bass without hurting them, and you can safely hold pike in place while removing the hooks from them. The wrist strap comes with a lanyard so you can adjust the width of the strap. That way the Boga doesn't end up at the bottom of the lake.
vtbassin: what do you use for a float on your Boga?

I have a berkly gripper, no scale on it but they make one with a scale. I have had it a couple of years now and have no complaints. The grippers are a must have IMO as they make it so the fish can be handled in a way as to limit injury to the fish - very important for catch and release. It also makes it much safer and easier to get the hooks out.

I got it at the marina. Some kind of rope float? I think it cost a couple of bucks. Here is a picture.

I bought a Rapala Lock 'n Grip with 25 lb. digital scale this year. I do not recommend it and would have sent it back if I'd kept the packaging. The battery connection broke when I installed the battery. The jaws are very sharp and tight, tough to unlock a smaller mouthed fish, like a sheepshead.

Raz - I have a Berkely gripper with a scale that I bought this winter and it works great. I've had several of the Rapala models not last through more than a couple outings and vowed never to go back to them.

Gerry Boga rules!! Like a good tool. Pay on the front side and you have no regrets. I have had one for 10 years. Works today like it did when it came out of the box. Still measures with pinpoint accuracy. No batteries ever. It also is not just about weighing fish. You cannot beat them for taking a big fish out of the net. When handling a Northern, Pickerel or a Walleye, they make the job much more enjoyable and SAFER. A fantastic tool. You will not regret the investment shorterm or longterm.

I have a rapala lock n grip with a 25# scale and I've had no trouble with it but you must be careful when changing the 9v battery. It beats trying to put that little hook into a live fish like most other scales have. I do wish it used another type of battery though. the rapala costs about 50 bucks.

We have the grip and weigh, the blue and green one and it works great. we tested it against the certified scales at point bay and they were dead on. still pretty costly 70bucks, it floats. Had a bow fin jump in the lake with it on and he came back to the surface and we scooped him back up. HA ha so lucky. It totaly water proof. The boga sounds pretty sweet.
