Second trip to VT this summer hasn't disappointed. Set up for some old school bullhead fishing near Point Bay Marina with seven of us enjoying an old family tradition...bamboo rods, big bobbers, and nightcrawlers. Fairly successful outing....took about a dozen bullies. The number of white perch was alarming...I'd much prefer to see more yellow perch, and in larger sizes. The yellows have been much smaller than I was accustomed to catching 15 years ago on Champlain. Bass fishing has been a pleasant surprise. Between my nephews and myself, just off of our dock, we've managed to land over 10 2# + bass. The largest being a 4# LM. 8/3 - I took my nephew out right off of the point and we landed several nice SM within a matter of one hour. The biggest being this one: My nephew's little Zebco scale and tape measured this one at 20" and 4.5#. I'd have guessed just under 4#, but who can argue with a zebco. Good times so far....only about six days left of vacation. Doesn't look like I'll get to try any coldwater fishing this summer....hopefully I'll have more time/money to get that set up next year.

Oh...and for the record, I've had good luck with gulp minnows on a 1/4oz jig head, wacky rigs, and anything top water at dusk.

Was that you guys in the boat just to the 'left' of the Marina the other night?
(Left facing in, as in near Lane's Lane)

Ha...nice! There was quite a commotion up there. Weren't you guys setting off fireworks? Sounded like a great time. I bet you guys had some good grub cooking too...
The mornings I don't go fishing (not often), I take a 3 mile run that leads me through Lane's Lane. I've looked for the yellow boat...havent' seen it. I'm still trying to decide whether or not to do a build up of my little 14' Sylvan, or to buy a 16-18' Crestliner/Lund and be done with it.

Good report. Those little Zebco De-liars aren't too bad for accuracy. Plus they give a bit of wriggle room to "round up". Enjoy the rest of your time here in VT.

tomson - Glad to hear that you are having a good time on your family vacation. That's a nice smallie in your pic. Should have a stretch of good weather coming so you can get a few more just like it. Good Luck!

real nice smallmouth. Looks like an easy four pouns plus to me. Where is Thompson's anyway, as I am still learning points beyond St. Albans Bay?
