Why'd all the bass die?
Maybe they got hit in the head by that ball and chain(s) you drag around the lake?
Or maybe they choked on the petrol your old kicker leaks into the lake while you circle slowly all day long?
Or maybe they killed themselves so they wouldnt have to read yet another thread about how bass tournaments cause everything from herpes to global warming!
Let me ask you, if I just ate the fish I catch would y'all give it a break? Ill do it if you make me. With a side of senkos and Chum-n-rub. Anything to stop this nonsense!

I dont have a clue why this thread was bumped...and before any more bass guys have a caniption fit...THIS FISH KILL IS ALL SPECIES, NOTHING TO DO WITH BASS FISHERMEN!!! The thread I started that seems to be the reason this one was bumbed stated it was all species, nothing mentioned about bass fishermen. fishing eagle, you ask some good questions, however you'll never get a straight answer. That would take balls to point at the black and white things romping through the fields, never happen in VT. To much money being made off this problem to actually identify the source, better to study it for a few more decades. Much better to have Senator Leahy launder storm water mitigation money through the LCBP to pay Burlingtons debt for a party that nobody went to than to worry about a few tons of dead fish. (Look it up, reported in the BFP last week) And LCI's swimmable drinkable fishable motto?...I would settle for survivable. Been there done that with reporting the annual fish die offs down here, I wont even bother reporting them any more...waste of time.

As I mentioned on the other thread this happens almost every year during the summer. Usually after a heat wave and a somewhat sudden cool down. It's not a new event. It's been going on as long as I can remember and I'm kinda old, been fishing south lake for 40 plus years. It's a cycle thing IMHO. Right now it's pan fish but some bass, catfish, walleye, Pike, and even some carp will start floating sooner or later. Lake will survive. Let's not panic (again).

Wow, talking about bass fishing and it's a negative again! I love to bass fish & do some tourneys but will do my best to be neutral on this issue. If other fisherman & women think these tourneys are a problem, what do the rest of the lake people think? As bassfisherman & women we really need to be aware of the sterotypes we are creating. As this problem exists or doesn't what have we done? Nothing but allow more tourneys every year, there comes a time of diminishing returns. Are we at that point who knows but I would guess a few less tourneys throughout the year wouldn't hurt anyone. I'm not taking any shots at local clubs or FLW related, ELITES. These are the ones who help pay for things around here! It's the others that really need to be told to not have so many tourneys or fish your own lakes for a change!
Champlain isn't a secret anymore but I don't want to lose what we have. Last year the lake was fished out from tournaments, there was a 2 week period where you could fish all day for one bass. I've had a great year this year, crushed them everytime but like I said before there comes a time of diminishing returns. My intent wasn't to anger anyone but just to make you think about the situation. I just can't see where cutting back or maybe montoring the situation wouldn't help us all out in the long run. They can't even control the lampreys for the trout & salmon people; what do you think they would do for us bassfisherman & woman?

Just back from three days fishing mostly the Ti area. There are some floating pan fish, catfish, carp, and a couple bass but if anything, this die off is much less severe then I've seen in past years. Still not pleasant to see or smell, but didn't see much out of the ordinary. I did take a picture of a big cat fish that was in terrible shape. Looked like something had been eating at it. Will post soon. New laptop, haven't figured everything out yet.
