I'll repeat what I had said on the other thread:
I don't have an issue with the LCI or any other fishing contest on Champlain... I enter some...some I don't. That's what the fish are here for...me, you, them...us. I care about the population of the fish. If it gets negatively affected, the tourney's will go away. But in reality I don't think that will happen, I don't think the population of targeted species will be severely effected.
I care about the "state of the lake", its condition, its future. It's a vast wonderful resource that needs taken care of and protected by us, the users of the lake. Fisherman.
I share some of the same concerns Schodack has expressed. -behavior -over-crowding of public launches -crowing of other fisherman -careless aggressive boating -invasive species -phosphorus loading -improved/increased spawning areas
Buy a Vermont fishing license. Go fish and have fun!

I will also repeat what I posted already. Great Idea Gerry! I have not fished the LCI in years. I also do not support the LCI. I believe there are far to many tournaments on Lake Champlain. The LCI may be the biggest. But the other smaller tournaments I think also do damage over time. There are countless tournaments on Champlain. From the LCI to little local Bass clubs. The problem is a small number of participants in All these tournaments large or small do not respect the resource. With the ever growing tournaments, it is going to take its toll. I use bass tournaments as my base complaint. There are more Bass tournaments on Champlain then any other tournament. The limit is 5 fish per angler on most tournaments which ties into the State regulations. To me It seems these tournaments should reduce the tournament limit to 3 fish. That right there would help the resource. My solution would be have a lottery for folks that want to have tournaments each year, with a limited number being allowed. Capt. The LCI does nothing but good things for the lake including the Derby, which is a great boost for the economy. Why is the LCI pulled into the discussion about bass tournaments? Create a thread about bass tournaments and leave LCI out of the discussion. Bob

Create a thread about bass tournaments and leave LCI out of the discussion. Bob Bob, The LCI holds a bass tournament as well. It is NOT just about Bass tournaments. At least it is NOT as far as I am concerned. It is about ALL tournaments. So I believe the discussion is more then appropriate right here. Capt. Tony www.anbradoncharters.comwww.mychamplain.net/fishing-derbies/11th-annual-lake-champlain-bass-open The 12th Annual Lake Champlain LCI Evinrude Bass Open, will take place on Sunday, September 4th, 2011 in Malletts Bay, Colchester, Vermont. Lake Champlain International (LCI) once again brings competitive bass fishing to Lake Champlain.

I just want it noted I've also said bass tournament participants behavior, based on my own experience anyway, has improved the past few years. I bitched up a storm 4-5 years ago about tournament guys jumping on top of me on weekends. Then it was common to have issues 3-6 times a weekend. Now, I am happy to report, it only happens on occasion (my pals from Jersey on a bug boat this past spring come to mind). So yeah, there is room for improvement, there always is. But it has been better and I hope the trend continues.

Bob, I think if you think about it, you will find that the LCI main tournament is a bass tournament. I have seen lots of bass sucking air when turing in my half dead salmon and browns to weigh. Point is about 4,000 fishermen at least half or better fish warm water for bass. So it is the biggest bass tournaments on the lake I would say. thats before you consider the smaller specific actual bass only tournament Captain Tony mentioned they sponsor. if it quacks and walks like a duck it is a duck. So it should be obvious the LCI Fathers day tournament is a bass tournament. You can see why now its pulled into this discussion.
And Bob the LCI does not do good things for the lake. It lobbies good things for the lake. What things for the lake such as direct work on the lake clean water efforts or stocking efforts are you talking about?
Also Bob the Derby is not a good thing for the lake...when you have 4000 people upsetting the environment, running dirty engines, spilling gas, throwing out beer cans and trash , killing lots of fish of all species, disturbing cormorants, and Loons, and nesting birds, and mud puppies, how could that be a good thing for the lake? The LCI is an attack on nature in reality by too many people at once. Given that I think it is worth it for the stimulation of business and the quest for a win . But lets be real and clear about this , the lake is a financial resource for the LCI and it is exploited for financial gain by the LCI in order to allow them to lobby. Now you have me wondering if it is really worth it. Lobby is needed, I think, so its a necessary evil maybe.
Oh, for the disturbed cormorants , I would like to shoot them in flight.
Reeldrag, the first tournament was permitted with fish and game since it had the use of the converse parking area. The first one was run by Kevin on this forum. The second tournament was not permitted to my knowledge but it did not have to be since there was no cash involved and there was no use of state property. Randy on the forum ran the second one and can give you the details. and by the way about 60 people were involved in both tournaments , not many. the group is a highly responsible and mature group of fishermen , friends who all know one another.
