Anyone else heading to the coast to chase stripe bass this fall? Our annual trip to Montauk to fish on the Sea Wife IV is on for 10/12 which happens to be a full moon. Hoping to get into some big fish.

Good Luck! Full moon means strong tides. Fish should be active. Do you guys troll or bait fish and do you fish your boat or a charter? BOL!

I hope so, we banged them good last year. We do a charter on Sea Wife IV a 52' with two fishing seats. They do a combination troll and jig with umbrella rig and pork trailer that imitates squid. Hard work but a lot of fun. I posted pictures on here from last years trip. Saw your thread on fishing RI. I was glad to see because my son is in Providence now and we talking about going out some time. Ocean fishing is the only kind of fishing he has shown even a remote interest in so I want to get him out. Not to mention it is a whole lot easier trip then driving out to the end of Long Island. But Montauk is mecca for stripe bass so I guess it is worth the trip. We had a ball. This will be our 2nd trip but I'm pretty sure this will be an annual event. I checked out your thread from last year and I've got the fever already ;D Anyone who has never tried this type of fishing should try it! There is nothing that comes close to feeling the power of a 30+lb. striper hit your lure while you're holding onto the working end of the rod. It's like someone just thru a cement block off the side of the boat hooked to your line while you weren't looking Anyways she looks like plenty of boat for any kind of fishing. How far from the docks to your fishing spots are you?On the Bonita II we're fishing about 20 to 30 minutes after we head out. It's a 5 1/2 hour drive but well worth the time. LOTS OF FISH! It's like you said on your thread, Lots of people fishing around us and not catching while we're trying to find someone with enough strength left to take a rod! God I Love It

Not a far ride, takes 20 - 30 minutes but only because in no wake the whole way out the bay. We idle out past the famous Montauk lighthouse and start fishing. We can see shore the whole time. There were 5-6' rollers we fished in last year but with the fighting seats it's not bad. It rained like hell the whole morning though. I'm bringing the rubber rain suit this year. The old gortex could not hold up to the wet we fished in last year. Funny how you don't mind being wet with 30-40 or 50" fish on though!

Tomorrows the day. Meeting the guys at 7:30 am to start the journey to stripe bass mecca. Cloudy but hopefully no rain. 18 MPH NE winds aren't inviting but the full moon is. Reports later this week. Tight lines all.

Well, that just sucked. I collected the other two guys up this way and head south 7:30 this morning. Met the other three in Goshen 2 hours south. While getting ready to depart, got a call from Capt. Tom - Forgetaboutit....... NE winds already had sea all worked up to the point that today, they had to fish for junk fish in a sheltered bay. Keep in mind this is a 52' boat. Bad today, supposed to be twice as bad tomorrow so trip is postponed until 11/7. Oh well, as usual mother nature is being a mother...... So back north we came. 4 plus hours of driving to get no where.... We may be looking for someone to fill out a party. Know of one from today's group who can't go already on the above date. If someone here might be interested, let me know and if we have an opening will be glad to have you. We had a ball last year and fishing is good through the end of November. Wish we could have gotten out tomorrow with this full moon. This is the charter we use. www.seawife.com/Brian

That sucks Bassman and why I go for two weeks in the summer. The weather is so unpredictable and offshore is no place to take chances.

Well, we finally got out yesterday. Capt. Tom of the Sea Wife IV didn't have an afternoon trip so we went out later at 8am to take advantage of the tide. Fished the rips using umbrella jigs with a pork trailer. Fishing a little rough right now as we are in between the early and late fall runs. Another week the herring will be in and the fishing will be red hot again. Anyway, we had to work for the bites, we were a little rusty at first and missed some fish we shouldn't have but got things going after awhile. Total was 12 bass (two returned) and 4 blues. Fish were smaller then last year but got a decent freezer bag of bass fillets and few blues. Guess what we are having for dinner tonight! We all got 2-3 bass one blue each. Some pictures below. Stayed at the Harborside which is an older hotel not 5 minutes from the Viking Pier where we hooked up with Capt. Tom. Nothing fancy but clean and comfortable for under $85 a night including taxes. Tough to beat. Friend Carl on his first stripe bass trip hooked into his first bass. My turn! MECCA! One of the larger bass. Carl got another nice one. Sometimes fishing gets a little close when the fishing is tough. We had boats get closer to us or we got closer to them then the boat in the back ground! A LOT closer. Combat fishing.... Our kept catch. Heading to port. Instigator? HEY! I think I know that boat! Montaukbassman/Schodack The motley crew Angelo, Rich (rookie), Carl (rookie), me, and Mike. 2011 is done for me. A tear and beer when I got home.

I was there much of October and November last year. Fished under the lighthouse with my son on his boat. Terrible fishing for us as the weather was so warm the bait stayed far offshore. We did score a few bass in Gardeners Bay. I'll keep an eye out for you next fall.

You should check stripers online for better info. Fall is Montauk time and October in Maine is for pollock fishing or deer huntin ;D
