Jamie, First of all. PLEASE do not feel like you can not contribute to the forum. All of us have different ideas and we all have different styles of fishing. I know I have gained some good ideas on here. I also share what works for me. That is not to say that if someone duplicates what I did they will catch fish. I urge you to jump in and share your experiences it keeps the forum fresh and something you tried may help out some else even if you did not catch a fish using that technique. About laker and salmon fishing. There should be great salmon fishing on that side of the lake. I know that later in the summer the salmon fishing in back of valcour is great. Keep checking in because I guarantee you are going to get replies to your post about where to fish over there from guys who are familiar with that area. Good Luck to you. And I hope to see you on here more often. Capt. Tony www.anbradoncharters.com

Capt Tony is right, feel free to chime in with your experiences (good and bad). By talking about it, someone with a lot of knowledge may pick up on some small thing your doing and help you correct it so your more successful. Also, when those with more experience talk about ways to improve, it helps them/us remember some things we may have forgotten that used to work and that we haven't' tried in awhile. I know it does for me anyway when talking about large/small mouth fishing. For striper fishing I consider my self very much inexperienced and I'm always looking to those with more experience for help. I'm learning about trout/salmon fishing by reading this board. Have never tried it but I retire in 3.5 years so I will have more time to experiment then and apply what I learn now.
You will find those who participate on this board open and very helpful. Good luck, we hope to see some pictures from you soon.

You are not out of your league and please post whenever you want. What better way to learn then to ask questions and bounce ideas around. I think it keeps everyone on their toes and fresh and we are always learning, I know I have learned a lot from the people on this forum. Nobody is ever going to bash you for asking questions or giving your opinion on something there is too many nice folk on here.
I know guys have done well in the past for salmon out in front of the Ausable river might be worth a shot.

Hey, I post on here. The flies i have, I got based on what people said. Now that they are in my possesion, they are the tandem flies that look like smelt, I don't remember the names! I have lures that resemble what people on here have, which I've had for years, but don't know the exact names of all of them. While I've fished a lot in my life, it's been years since I've spent serious time on Champlain fishing, but am now getting back in to it. Most people on here are more experienced than I, but I post occasionally and in no way feel "out of my league" even with the pros on here. I've got the toys to get out there, so I make do with what I have, and take the info from here and apply it to what I have. Looking forward to a great year out there partly in thanks to what I've learned here. And I'll post to let people know what doesn't work if I don't have luck (see my post RE: Saturday, no fish caught around Winooski River).
Good luck to all, post away. Makes for good distractions at work - read about fishing since I can't be fishing!
Mike

Second year on champlain, first on this board, got a lot to learn about champlain but fished lake michigan for years so I feel I have something to contribute. This is by far the best board I have found and it's people like you that make it that way. The only dumb ouestion is the one you didn't ask.

The east side of Valcour, along the ledges in Port Kent and Port Douglas areas all have lakers and salmon. This time of year run in 10 to 20 feet of water. Small points that stick out will most often hold fish. You dont have to be very far out from shore. As the water warms up and the fish move out to deeper water then you will need riggers or dipsey divers.

Hey seedevil, your post message is how I feel...trying to learn more from these guys, share what little knowledge I have, and hats off to the experienced guys. Kids are grown and gone so I'm trying to reinvent my fish knowledge from 20 years ago...mono, fluorocarbon, braided lines, stickbaits, jerkbaits, dipseys, dropshotting, shaky heads...just trying to learn the "modern" language has been challenging, let alone what to use for what fish type, etc. It so far is an interesting learning experience but frustrating cause I ain't catching much fish when I go out. Skunks have pretty much won so far this year. Anyway, good luck and keep the faith.

Seadevil---I can only reiterate what everyone else has already said. I bought my first boat in '04 and mostly target Salmon. I don't think I know squat about about fishing compared to a lot of the folks on this forum, although I've fished one way or another since very young. I found this forum early last year and felt the same as you do, but started posting anyway. So far, I've meet up in person with Capt Tony and 4cs and hope to meet many more of the people on here. Posting on this forum is sort of like going to a party with your friend (your computer in the privacy of your own home, or work) where you don't know anyone, and soon you start warming up to others that are there. Just saying thanks, or "congratulations" to another fellow fisherperson keeps things upbeat and lets everyone know you appreciate their presence here. Post what you have to offer and be who you are. If you fish or care about the lake--you belong here. We like having anyone here that wants to be. MY HATS OFF TO YOU.

The critical thinking concept is paramount to being able to find a way to fish that works for you. I take what guys like Captain Tony, Razzle, and Champlainfisher say, I do some internet and book research, and then I mix it together into something that works for me. I don't have a lot of the stuff many guys have but I catch more fish each time I hit the lake. I'm still getting my head around the laker and salmon fishing, so their knowledge is worth more than platinum. I also have a belief that knowledge is to be shared, and that this is a good place to give back. To many guys keep too many secrets, when all someone really wants is to relax and catch a few fish. The other great thing about this board is that you'll be able to take a lot of what you learned and apply it to fishing on other waters.

Got to add, My hats off and my respect for the knowledge freely shared here is and has been growing since the day I joined. I too am a newbie to Lake Champlain and I learned rather quickly that the techniques I brought with me from years of fishing Lake Ontario don't work as well here, but the techniques and lures and other info has been accurate and easily understood. If you hear or see us on the water, give a shout. Channel 68 and Silver Fox is the boat, HP flyfishing & thrif are the guys, and my sincere thanks for the continuing information and updates.
