Any one else yakfish on Champlain?
My son and I both got kayaks last year and spent the summer fishing locally(Mass). He's 16 and just really started getting into fishing. We're planning a long weekend in July for taking the kayaks up camping/fishing. I've fished once before in Champlain. Spent a weekend in an October fishing the west side of Alburg passage?(the land across from N Hero). Figured we'd hit that(from the bridge down to the jetty by N hero marina/pelots point). Was wondering if there were any more "can't miss" places to take him on the kayak. Mostly fishing for LMB, but not above targeting any other species, we just look forward to getting on the water.

Fishing out of my canoe I've finally found large mouth bass in the Inland Sea back waters. When you schedule a Champlain date let me know and I will give you a list of my favorite hots spots! Dick

Georgia shoreline Van Everest access up to Georgia Rec Park or down to Eagle Mountain always produces very nice small mouth fishing late summer to early fall right along the shoreline...I've taken my canoe thru these water several times and never got skunked for SMB. The white perch also start coming up on that shelf to feed hard too, so don't be surprised if you get into a school of them.

I was actually thinking Missisqoui might be an interesting place to try with a kayak. Not only is that probably the #2 spot on Champlain for LMB but, you also might get a shot at a Muskie up there. Cool river flow into the delta might also keep that viable during the summer as well.

i ended fishing a few spots with a little luck, then on our last day we fished the western side of the gut and killed it. My son was pulling in good sized (2-5lbs) LMB pretty much every cast for about 45 minutes at one point. i had thought about Missisqoui, but it was pretty windy the entire time we were there and i wasn't familiar with it. maybe next time though...

I don't think you can beat the Gut for bass fishing. Try it in June for sight fishing large mouth!! Dick
