I heard some information today about the work that is supposed to happen at the new Vermont Fish And Wildlife Access area at Apple Island. Looks like work will start this fall to repair the launch. A coffer dam will be put in and the ramp fixed. Also trees will be removed allowing a larger ramp area. From what I have heard the ramp will become a two lane launch ramp with a dock down the middle. Also some of the harbor will be dredged. The road leading into the area, currently Featherbed Lane is also going to be move a bit to make access from the main highway (rt2) safer. There are also plans to redo the parking area as well. I received this information from folks who have seen the plans on paper. But as we all know things can change. And when it comes to the State of Vermont we also know things on paper don't always come out the way they planned. I would have liked the State to have spent the money on improving the current launches, instead of putting so much money into this one. But at least something is being done, which is a positive thing for Sportsman. I will post more if I hear anything. Capt. Tony www.anbradoncharters.com

Careful when you pull in to the State access from RT 2. You could loose an axel. Driveway down to the lot is also craters. But on a happy note. The Keeler Bay access road is in top notch shape. To bad, you are lucky to launch a canoe there. Mixed priorities? Or is it that there are at least 6 year round homes that either live on the access road (3) or use the access road to access there right of way road (3). What good is an access road when you cant launch? It will be interesting to see how this new launch comes out and how well it is maintained. Capt. Tony www.anbradoncharters.com
