Hi Everyone,
I am wondering what people have been using to catch bass or pike from the Laplatte River and mouth into Shelburne bay? I read on here that some people had been pulling pike and bass out of the sailboat moorings along the point. Has anyone fished these spots recently? If so, what were you using to catch fish in those areas?
I appreciate any and all suggestions.

Mepps spinners are a good choice, but you can't go wrong with live bait like minnows. The sail boat moorings hold a lot of bass. Good luck and don't be afraid to experiment with other baits like crankbaits, tube jigs and spinner baits. Dattilios tackle on Shelburne road isn't far from Shelburne bay and can provide you with a lot of options to try.

In my off time from Salmon fishing, I fish areas as you describe. Not the same area, but the same locations, such as moorings rocks etc. All I use is a wacky rigged senko. Throw it out let it sink to the bottom. Slowly lift and let fall and retrieve. The bites normally happen on the fall. Large mouth and Small mouth fall for it almost every time. The pike do come in and tear me up. But I do land some. This method will work great from a kayak. Watermelon Flake and Baby-bass colored senkos are working best for me. As far as hooks, I just use large circle hooks or you can get the Octopus hooks in size 4/0 - 5/0. You get a good lip hook and do not hurt the fish much with hooking. Play it quickly and release so they can get back and have a successful spawn. I don't even hold up for a picture at this time of year, rather just immediately get them back to the water. The less stress the better. Try it you will have a blast. Good Luck! Let is know how you do. Captain Tony Bushway www.anbradoncharters.com

Thank you Captain Tony. I appreciate the tips. I have done most of my fishing between the Laplatte River and to the "point" before the big sail boat mooring bay. I haven't had much luck with using my pike set up. I think I need to get into the sailboat area and find some better underwater structure, and use some soft plastics to find the bass. Maybe I'll get lucky and find something!
I will be sure to let you know what if I get anything, I am unfortunately out another two months due to a broken vertebrae in my neck, but come late July I will be out there everyday.
Thanks again for the tips, looking forward to getting back out on the water.

Yikes! I hope you have speedy recovery. In July there should be Pike and large mouth all over. For the pike try to find submerged weed beds in 9-15 feet of water 1/2 spinner baits burned over the top of these areas will get a Pike bite. I like white with a double willow leaf blade. Also mepps number 5 in line spinners black fury etc are deadly. Instead of using steel leader try a piece of 20# Mono or fluorocarbon line and use about 12 inches or so for a leader. You will get more hook ups. You will still break some off but not all of them. I would use a Texas rigged worm around the sailboats at that time. Spinner baits will also work as will top water under the right conditions. Sure is fun fishing from a kayak. I have done it quite a bit in the FL Keys. What a blast. Best of luck to you!
