I used a 18' Bass Cat for years and made out fine.

Depends on what part of the lake you are fishing and of course the wind speed. I have a 19' Bass Cat which handles most water pretty well. I've fished up north when the wind came up and while I can get from point A to B it's not a lot of fun. Big water can be found from around Crown Point bridge north. You have to learn how to trim and control speed plus run the troughs when you can. More HP and foot throttle helps in my opinion. South Lake you are going to be OK most of the time though when we get high north or south winds, especially south winds, it can get pretty big in some areas like in front of paper mill and narrows around Crown point. Down by Fort you will be OK though loading can be a challenge with a cross wind depending on where you launched.
You really just need to pay attention to wind speeds. Also, what ever wind speed NOAA forecasts, add 10 mph 90 percent of the time. Windfinder is better but not perfect. Reduce your speed, pay attention, learn to read waves, and for Gods sake wear your PDF and kill switch cord. Also let someone know where you launching and where you intend to fish. If you are new to a bass boat, stay in sheltered bays etc. until you to become an experienced boater. Got a lot of bass boat owners out there that spend a ton of time learning fishing techniques and spend zero time learning to be a boater. Way more to it then mashing the gas and speeding down the lake. Even in calm waters.
Good luck, have fun, and above all else be safe. Happy New Year to all.
