Headed out to the Pulaski area Tues morning with 3 first timers to the SR. We got into town about 9ish. Took them up to the hatchery to give them a close up personal view of the creatures they would hopefully get to do battle with. Needless to say that the sight of the hatchery got the boys really excited about wanting to get on the water. We went and set up camp, had some lunch and hit the river. I have to say that I was kinda wondering how these guys would do as one of them is a bass fisherman and the other is a lawn chair style fisherman. The other guy has done lots of stream fishing.
We got to the area and I showed them the spots that the fish liked to hold in as they worked up through the area. It went very well. I was soon locked up tight to a fish and lost it after a couple minute battle. There were enough fish around to make it worth staying and fishing the area. It took most of the afternoon but 2 of the 3 friends of mine at least had a fish on. I also had a few on and landed a couple. The day was outstanding as 2 new guys hooked up to their first ever king.
With day one having gone so well with getting 2 guys a chance at a king, I really wanted to get our other buddy into a fish. So I showed him a couple spots and where to drift to. Explained the technique of drift fishing a little more. This is not a type of fishing I think he could understand real well. But after a little help and coaching he was doing better at drifting. By this time each of our other 2 buddies each mananged to get a fish or 2 on and each landed their first ever SR fish. Great fish to pop the SR cherry on, a 7 & 10 lb steelie. The day was just getting started and it was already better then I could have hoped for. The smiles on their faces and the enthuasim they had reminded me of how I felt the first time ever fishing up there. Our other buddy did finally manage to get a fish on as well but couldn't land it. They ended the day with a steelie and a king with several fish lost.
Fished again this morning and the guys had a blast. We had several fish on and landed 4 kings. One of my friends ended his trip with a 25 lb hen. What a great trip and these guys want to go back - they could not believe what a great fishery it was.
