The night befor I had a bear come in under my stand but stayed in the brush and didn't get a shot with my bow. Tonite i opted to take my 50cal night muzzleloader. After sitting for about and hour and a half I saw him lumbering in. He turned broad side at 25 yards and I put it on his shoulder and scweezed the trigger. The night roared and the smoke flew. I didn't reload right away as I thought he would just go down. To my surprise he started making his way back up the hill he had just come down. I reloaded then as fast as I could. It was to late he had gone out of site. I made my way down out of the tree and circled around where I had last seen the bear. I called my son with my cell and told him to come quickly I had wounded a bear and needed some backup. I picked up the blood trail and could hear the bear out on the power line making his way up the hill but couldn't see him, I climed up on a boulder and could just see the saplings moving and he was starting to cover some ground. Noing that bears dont' bleed very good I decided to leave the blood trail and just go by the sound of him in the leaves. I crossed the power line and could barely hear him about 100yards ahead of me. I climed about 80 yards and caught movement about 120 yards ahead of me strait up the hill I dropped to one knee and turned the scope to nine power. I saw the bear quarting across the hill and got him in the scope for a second and shot. When the smoke lifted and the sound stopped the leaves were silent. I made my way up the hill and there I could see the bear. I called my son back and told him to leave the gun and bring a drag rope. I waited for him to go up to the bear. When he got there we walked up on him and what a site he was. His head was enormous and had the body of two of me. I had shot him dead in the shoulder and just didn't get good penetration but he was still hurt bad. The second shot took him right behind the shoulder a bit of luck on that one. ha ha I then called my uncle and his son and another friend to help drag. It took all of us to get him into the truck.
He ended up weighing in at 294 lbs
What a beast!
Gotta take some pictures this morning in the daylight to bad its raining.
It is gonna make a sweet rug.
