Hello all. New here in the Plattsburgh area. Read on some of the sites that Walleye and Trout >25" should be avoided for excessive mercury levels. Wanted to know what the locals think of this.
I will be heading out tommorrow for the first trip in a Lake (and the first time fishing a lake). I have always been a saltwater offshore junkie. In any case, I got two downriggers which I will use to pull a spoon and a diving plug and different dephts. If I can have any other tips on depths and locations, Ill really appreciate. Thanks.

Well, I figure I post how the fishing went. We got skunk.. Man, I tried everything in the box. Trolled spoons, divers, etc. Started east of Cumberland head deep towards the northern tip at 50-90 ft. Tried slow and fast. Gave up on trolling and then tried casting on grass beds and rock ledges with no luck. There was a bunch of weed down deep and water seemed to be pretty clear. It was a beautiful day, just wish I would have caught some fish. BTW, I did no see a single sign of fish. What is going on?

One Word: LAMPREYS I hope they get enough mercury poisoning to kill them all off. Seems like that's as probable as VT taking care of them. I fear that fish (lakers, salomon, trout) in any numbers will be tough to come by on a consistant basis for several years at least. I hope I'm wrong. L.J.

the fishing has been terrible there all summer, I agree that lamphreys' are the cause, last trip out I got no fish and had two lamphreys stuck to my downrigger ball, earlier this year took the kids perch fishing, they had scares on them! when lamprheys get the perch things are getting bad, them vermont tree huggers need to have one suck on there cheek and then maybe vermont will pull there heads out of where they should not have them and hopefully see the light, sure they saved a few mudpuppies but then killed tons of fish to do so. Maybe we can get vermont and new york city to combine togather, 2 pee's in a pod, we don't need either one of them,
