Thanks for your response. My brother and I are planing a trip at the end of June. When does bass season open on the lake? Where is Auberg in relation to Plattsburg?.

Bass season opens June 11'th this year. I'm like Pikehunter, I like to fish the north part of the lake. North Hero would be a good place to stay. Lots of reefs loaded with Smallmouth. Carry Bay and the Alburg passage have nice Largemouth fishing.

We will be coming from Maryland, thru Newe York, where is the best place to cross into Vermont. We will need to find cottages, sometimes there are 6-8 of us and we like to cook our own food. We do not keep a timetable to eat, so if the fishing is good, we stay at it.

Take I-87 north from Albany to Plattsburgh, and take the Lake Champlain Ferry from Plattsburgh/Cumberland Head to Grand Isle on the Vermont side. Assuming you're bring your own boat, you can ferry it across without a problem. Good luck!

Check out this place. They have junk in the rooms and a dock for your boat. They are located right in the Alburg passage so lots of good fishing. They also have a bait and tackle shop. www.holidayharbormotelvt.com/information.html

Hello there. I too am new to Champlain. This June will be my second time there. I have read that the smallie fishing is better up north but I wouldn't know because last summer we stayed on Potash Bay(vermont side) which is about 4 miles north of the crown point bridge. I cant imagine doing much better than we did. It was our first time there and we caught more smallies in 1 week than I have my entire life anywhere else(except for 1 time on the delaware river we caught 40 in 2 hours-mostly shorts though). The house we stayed in was on Vermont property.com(many places both north and south and some very cheap) under the heading Stephens family cottage. It was very reasonably priced, lakefront with dock and mooring, and very clean. I can describe the view from this house in 2 words; WORLD CLASS. If their is a finer place on earth, I have yet to see it. We didn't catch 1 short and saw only 4 other bass fisherman all week(and this was the week ending 4th of july weekend). Addison county is very unpopulated and there is a free boat ramp under the bridge. Hopefully that will help ya. Good luck!
