Nick and I launched the boat at 630am. We zipped across the lake to pick up my Dad and a friend at the Essex Shipyard. We trolled for Salmon for about 4 hours. We had only one small Salmon to show for it. So we decided to give the lakers a try. We fished several of our favorite laker spots. We landed at least 20 lakers but all small. We could not break the 6lb mark. The peanut was by far the most successful. We also caught many fish on Honeybee #3 long. Green trout and fire tiger worked very well today. We tried the super mags today with no luck. No bigger fish today. No luck with the big spoons. I cleaned several fish for my dad today. Very little in the bellys, some smelt but no alewives. We continued to keep 3 lines in the water for Salmon while fishing for lakers. I have done well in the past with these, but not yet this year. The weather was fantastic and we had a great time on the water today. Good luck to anyone out this weekend. Thorny

Thanks for the report, Rob...
I don't feel so bad then...All I have had for two weeks are shorts...Not a legal Salmon in the mix for me...

Thorny:
When the #3s are firing, it's a pretty good bet that alewives are not around ... more likely to be feeding on smelt. When the alewives are there, Mags & Supermags become the ticket.
Personally, I let the fish tell me what they want and then adjust the spread to include either the #3s or the Mags/Supermags. But that can change with new concentrations of different forage or a different location.
