Hit the water about 0600 with my wife and daughter. Launched the boat and proceeded to try to get on plane to today's hot spot. Boat just wouldn't do anything except point straight in the air. After several curses about ethanol etc she finally got up. We get everything setup and after about 5 min notice water coming in the back of the boat so I flip on the bilge and open up my rod storage in the floor to find it's full of water. My wife says "did you put the plug in", of course honey but I think I put it in the live well drain! Trimmed up the motor a bit, climbed back there and got things right. That was the first time in my 39 years I've done that. Oh well, it won't happen again! After that fiasco a rod fired shortly after with a nice fat 4lb salmon off red gander at 48ft. Beautiful fish with only one recent lamprey wound and a nice kype to the jaw. I have pictures but have already drank a beer waiting for the dial up to upload it so maybe later. Another rod within minutes on a rainbow bee at 55 feet, solid 20" fish. Lost another good fish on boy/girl hi tech at 61 ft. Fishing was outstanding until about 0830 as the sun peeked through. Ended up 2-8 with most everything happening in that 2 hour span. It's funny the later it got the more trouble we had keeping fish hooked. Ran vertical blades on two poles and they accounted for about a third of the releases. Nothing tight to blades, 17-30 back, 2.5 on GPS. The lures run clean today seemed to work better for whatever reason. Lots of bait b/n 60-80 ft, with lots of hooks around them. Only saw a few other boats in the area.

I did run 1 rigger down around 70 for awhile but no takers. 40-60 was the magic number with lots of bait deeper than that.

Mark, Great report. I am glad that all went well. We all have been there and done that. I am very Happy to hear you figured out the issue and everyone is safe. The fish are as you know there and this time of year you can put some beauties in the boat if can dial them in. It sounds and I am sure you are doing just that. I will send you a Pm as well. Keep up the good work. Capt. Tony www.anbradoncharters.com

Good report MarknFish. Yes indeed, we've all launched with the drain plug somewhere other than where it belongs. But you sir, did so in the presence of the all knowing, all seeing Mrs.. And for this most grievous one time omission you will no doubt have to answer a single question every time you launch, "did you put the plug in?". For all of eternity. And your only possible reply can be "yes dear". Until death do you part.
Welcome to the club.

Brian is right. When I did it, it was indeed in front of the all knowing and all seeing Mrs. Since then, I repeat "Yes Dear" everytime the boat leaves the driveway. and..... she double checks my "work" everytime.

It certainly was a fiasco of a day. Among other things I broke the end off one of my rods as I think the line was looped around the tip when the ball went down. I had just finished taping up a blue/pink hi tech when a rod fired, I grabbed the rod and the lure went overboard. At least the fish cooperated!

We all have days like that Mark! Some times it's the batteries..... then it's fish on and a--oles & elbows when you get a rigger hung (no laughing instigator) .....we've all been there! All & all we still got two fish in the boat!

Been there. No plug in the Hudson above Waterford, alone, end of October, and didn't notice for 45 minutes after launch when water started coming up through the drain hole in the middle of the boat. You can imagine how much water I had taken on. Couldn't get near the back of the boat to attempt to put plug in or it would have gone under. Had to use trolling motor to get to shore, hop in (it was about 40 but sun was out!) to put the plug in. Took pump about half hour to any hour to empty the water but I did remember to start the big motor so the battery wouldn't go dead. Didn't know (at the time) that you could get up on plane to get water to run out but I think by that time, I had to much water on board to try that little maneuver. Didn't catch much that day either. Glad I had a change of cloths. Wasn't a good way to end a season, that's for sure.
