Tuesday I went down to Paradox Lake for the third time. A couple of years ago I spent an afternoon there fishing from a Hornbeck boat so was limited in traveling far. Caught nothing. Back in early June tried it with new boat. Result-one small largemouth and one small pickerel. Tueday fished several areas including a couple of small bays and points on the other side of the narrows. Tried Senkos, Rapalas, small rubber minnows for panfish and a large daredevle for pike. Result-one small largemouth on a Senko and a small pickerel on a rubber frog in the weeds. Did have a decent largemouth slash at the rubber frog, but no hookup. So the question is -poor fishing day? Poor fishing in general at Paradox? Or poor fisherman?

I've never fished there, but if you have been 3 times with the results that you have had, I'd say it was the lake. Bob

Thanks for the report Coonmtman. I spent some time on Paradox about 20 years ago. Pretty lake in the Daks. Easy access right off 87. Do you know if it gets a lot of pressure. I miss spending time in the Daks. I grew up climbing the high peaks. Thorny

I wouldn't give up on Paradox, according to DEC it has Rainbows and Lake Trout Might take time to find the deep part of the lake and figure out the depth of the fish and lures to use www.dec.ny.gov/docs/fish_marine_pdf/pdoxlkmap.pdfGood luck................Sundown

I used to camp at the State Park and fish Pardox back in the late 80's. Pretty lake. I fished for bass and only caught a few but enjoyed the surroundings. Once while fishing from a canoe I hooked a 10 lb. pike on a spinnerbait. It actually pulled the canoe a bit. By the time I played it out, landed it (without a net), weighed it and took a photo it was pretty well spent. I tried to release it but it wouldn't swim away, so I re-caught it and cleaned it. In it's stomach was a 12" Rainbow trout.
Thanks for the post. Brian

Thanks to a couple of you that blamed the lake and not my fishing expertise or lack of. I have not tried for the trout. The deep area is through the narrows from the launch site. There is supposed to be a triangular area of deep water that hold the trout. Since I had been downrigging on Lake Champlain I thought I'd take a break and try for the warm water species. There seemed to be little life going on in the lake. Fishing guidebooks state its great fishing, but it seems those types of books always overstate the fishing. Anyway I'm in no great hurry to get back there-Lake George isn't much farther for me and having guided charters for three years out of Diamond Point I know the fishing can be great there.
