Eye, When we made our first 45 minute pass of the day on Tuesday I thought my fishfinder was broken. It looked like the moon. Prior week there was bait and fish and a few nice ones hit. I was glad when we moved to see my X-85 still worked. It seems the salmon bite the last two weeks has been very similar to any typical August in the past. I am glad I don't charter for a living. ;D I would need a costco container of antacids for the stomach churn just looking for legal size salmon. Keep after them. R

The question becomes: Where are the July Salmon?
Well, I asked one of the best in retirement "Doc Mooney" Moondog why he doesn't come out of retirement and fish again? He mentioned turkey hunting the month of May and June something else. But, when it came to July he simply stated: "The fish seem to dissappear in July". This coming from one of the best salmon fisherman this lake has ever seen. He spent Fri-Sun every week on the water up and down this entire lake in his hay day.
For me that says a lot. It was like in hockey camp at 16 years old when a seasoned college hockey coach told me a forward can never get around a good defenseman one on one with the puck. Life changing event. ;D

Hello Salmoneye
The fish must be out there someplace I have never fished Salmon this late in the year myself.
I hope to give them a good try in the next couple of weeks.
Keep at them I am sure you will figure them out.
Thanks Phil B

Isn't it a little strange that no one seems to be picking up on any decent sized(legal) salmon? You would think just by luck, accident or persistance that an occaisional nice salmon would hit. In Lake George salmon fishing this time of the year is dominated by smaller fish, but every once in awhile you're treated to a beauty. It at least gives motivation to keep at it.

They are somewhere. Just not in the usual places we return to from May and June. Or deeper in the water column? Just not markin them.
I remember Instigator struggling in July last year down near Converse. He started fishing up in the Sea and caught some fish.

Ron I remember Instigator doing well up there too last year and I think he wasnt fishing temperature either and if my memory serves me right he wasnt fishing very deep. Go figure.
