Fish with Frank aboard the Fishinmachine this weekend. Had a blast. I say weekend but we only fished Saturday. Got up way too early (3am ) headed out of Converse towards Whalin's and picked up half a dozen shorties in and around Whalins. Water temps were funky with 51 degrees at 30 feet and 55-56degrees at 55 feet. Decided to play the laker game and had a blast. Nothing monstrous but lots of fun. We did 9 fish in a few hours and left while they were still biting very well. Only ran two rods and ended the day with doubles. As usual Frank put us on fish. Thanks Frank. Hope you all enjoy the pictures as much as we did making them. Oh I almost forgot. Blackbeard caught a dandy salmon yesterday just under 27' long. He caught 5 keepers and the big fish came down 30 feet in 50 FOW. Ya just never know. Saturday AM looking east from Whalins Unknown fisherman(Fish On!) Frank w laker

NIce job guys! I lost radio contact with ya as I asume you guys moved north?? we worked the area from split rock/thompsons north to the ferry most of the morning. Landed nine salmon, all sub-legal but steady action. also landed one white fish....bit of a suprise, lost three others. No lakers today as I was running verticals down at 110 in 200-300ftofw. Lots of bait early on but they scattered as the sun got higher. Left about 2:00 but it took us about 45 min to get out of converse, the launch was mobed as usual! Need to get out with you guys! Nice chatting with you in the morning! Blackbeard- wanted to say thanks for the help at the launch with Instigator! Helped turn a bad day into a good one! Early bird- sorry i couldn't chat with you when we pulled out but had to get going as you saw the launch was hectic! Love that boat, do you get down to the coat with it at all?

Great report and great pics guys, thanks. You guys got some nice fish and sounds like you really had a riot.
Who's blackbeard? He's not a member here, can you get him to join? Sounds like he had some good success with that nice salmon.

Thanks for the report Shawn. Like the pics. A flat lake sure makes it enjoyable to drag bottom for lakers. It also makes it tough to catch Salmon!

Hey Shawn, this is the unknown fisherman in your post, in the MirroCraft, (Polar Man's the handle).... nice laker...... and nice photo of myself in top fishing form, if I don't say myself. I landed 4 short salmon and a stockie laker on Sat. So where did the big fish swim to? I'm from the NY side out of Essex.
Did Blackbeard weigh that 27" salmon? I'm wondering...... if it was like the deep fish we've been catching of late, I would guess it must have been around 10 lbs.

Shawn, Thanks for the report and very nice pictures. Looks like a beautiful day on the water. Seems those are few and far between this year with all the rain. Ron The Salmon bite has been very, very consistent for us. Yes you have to work at it but we have not yet seen the expected slow down that will be coming over the next month. Plenty of nice Salmon taking our offerings. Also worth noting we are seeing many more legal + Salmon and not nearly as many shorts this year. Still being able to run cheaters and get nice fish on them. Capt. Tony www.anbradoncharters.com Capt. Tony www.anbradoncharters.com

I saw you hook up and took the shot. As far as the big fish and where they are. Anywhere they want to be. I think they leave these preferred temps and depths for much longer than everyone thinks if the feed is good and they can get back to their comfort zone fairly quickly. There were lots of reports of bait the days before we fished and then a lot more chatter that the bait was gone while we were there. I think the bait and fish are higher in the water column than expected and we are not seeing them because we are blowing them out and away with the boat. I heard of one fisherman doing very well Saturday on planer boards and dipsys in 50 to 60 FOW down 29 to 34 feet. And Blackbeards(Charlie) keepers came in 50 FOW down 30. Its just my opinion. I keep hearing more and more guys being successful in places we wouldnt imagine during July & August.

Shawn, Very good analogies. 30 feet down for Salmon seeker and Blackbeard on your end of the lake. Seems some of us including me have been to deep from 40-55 ft of cable out with the riggers and the fish are coming up to feed like you mentioned. Great stuff Shawn and it certainly helps putting the pieces together here in the fishing reports. R

Good thoughts Shawn. Last time I was out I may have been too deep also. The only fish I caught in 3 hours came from 35 down, it was my highest setting.
VERYDEEPWATER: Welcome!
