Well I did terrible at the tournament. I came in 92nd out of 96. I had a great time though, and I really learned a great deal while I was there. I did catch some great fish while I was out there including my new personal best SMB and LMB. Check these out: [a href=" "] [/a] 4 lbs 4 oz SMB on Rapala DT-10 crankbait. [a href=" "] [/a] [a href=" "] [/a] 7 lbs 7 oz LMB my first drop shot fish ever, on 6 lbs test in 22' of water. I am now a fan of drop shotting. My friend I was fishing with had to convince me to tie one on. Pretty convincing arguement. ;D

Wow! Those are two nice fish, especially that hog LM. Did you catch it in practice, or the tourney? Bob

Nice fish. Sounds like you had a good time and learned from the experience. That is the most important thing. Love to hear more about it. Still intend to get together with you sometime this season when things finally slow down. I fish until November so there is lot's of time yet. I still owe Bob a trip too.
Congrats on landing some hogs, what a blast. ;D

Thanks for the pics Brock. Nice healthy looking bass, big ole' belly on the LM. I followed the tournament results at the BASS website. The RI guys had it going on pretty well. You VT'ers still get to place a guy in the regionals. A good format.
BTW, the smallmouth looks to have dead eye. If so it's a real toad for a "blinky".

Yes, both of those fish came during practice . The LMB came on a 4" watermelon senko. The SMB came on a rapala dt-10. My first day partner was a great guy. He is a Fed-Ex driver from NY which is ironic seeing as that I am a UPS driver. We had a good time swaping stories. I caught no keepers that day, and he did wind up with a good limit, but if you told me at 1:00 that he would have 14-12 by 2:30, I would have said you were full of it. He had 3 small keepers at 1:30 and caught 2 bedded smallies in the last 45 minutes of fishing. He even gave me a shot at the first one. I had it suck in my tube, I set the hook and came up with water. My day 2 partner was from RI, I was excited as he was in 3rd place overall. The only problem was, all the fish he caught were his non-boaters from day 1. He thought he could replicate the patern, but no such luck. We went after LMB and we both caught 2 keepers. Day 3 my partner was in 1st place for the Ontario federation, he told me he wanted to fish some bedding smallies, and seeing how I had no chance to win, I told him to go for it. I did catch a 4-3 SMB that day. He had his limit by 10:00 and we went to fish some reefs and humps. Neither of us caught a keeper the rest of the day. He was truly dissapointed for me. He was a real good guy to fish with, and I was happy that he was able to win. Overall, it was a great experience, that I would do again in a heart beat. I caught my 2 biggest bass ever how could I go wrong?

In a pro syle tournament format for a co-angler, right behind dock fishing would probably be bed fishing. As far as the co-angler having a decent chance of sacking a limit.

This tournament was a split time on the front of the boat format. I did not have my own spots, so I gave the boater control for the whole 8 hours. I learned a great deal, about how to break down a big body of water, and how to develop a pattern. I really did not have illusions of grandeur gowing in to the tournament. Would I have been glad to go to the national championship, yes. Am I disappointed in how I did, a little. It was the first 3 day tournament I have ever fished and I was surprised what a grind it was. I have fished the LCI before, but it is not like 8 hours of fishing almost non-stop. No naps, no lunch break, etc. I don't know how the pros do it.

Great great report Brock. Sounds like you really got good partners to fish with. You were smart to let them pick the spots and probably that contributed to why they wanted you to do well too. I bet you will remember this trip for a long time. Thanks for sharing.
