Launched the canoe this morning up at Buck Lake which is outside of Woodbury. First time ever there. Its about 39 acres in size. One of the 1st things I noticed was alot of downed timber in the water, mostly submerged. It was early so I thought I'd start off with a topwater. I worked a Tiny Torpedo in frog pattern along the shoreline hoping for some smallmouth. What I got instead were pumpkinseed. I took 2 off the torpedo, which was bigger than their mouths. Both hooked on the front treble. Then the wind came up. I hate the canoe in the wind. After fighting it for a bit I paddled down to the outlet end where there were a bunch of big rocks. I put the topwater away and started throwing a silver /blue tandem spinnerbait. First cast this smallie slammed it. ;D I let the wind blow me back down to the launch area while tossing the spinnerbait. Missed another and that was that. By the time I got to the launch I decided to call it a day. Hate fighting the wind. I will return, and next time I'm taking some plastics with me. ;D

Sounds like a good adventure. There are a lot of places that hold decent fish, but it's hard not to fish Champlain, when it's right there. Bob

Dennis nice report. I checked out Buck Lake last year, just as the kids were coming into camp so did not get a real good look. Sounds like I might need to get back with the canoe.
Also have to agree with Bob.

Looks like fun Dennis. Gotta aggree with you about the canoe in the wind. That can be a pain.

Great job. Looks like it was a good time. I hate the wind in my boat with an outboard on it!

Dinosaur - nice report and pic's. The wind certainly does make canoing difficult. I like to put the electric trolling motor on the canoe, it's a lot easier than paddling against a breeze. Unfortunately, motors of any kind are prohibited from a lot of small ponds.

I agree with you Voyager on the trolling motor; but I will no longer run one on the canoe because of the state of Vt's infinite greed. It costs as much for me to register my canoe with a trolling motor as it does to register my '89 Lowe with a 40 HP outboard. ($43/yr). I do register my little jonboat ($28/yr) but I'll be Damned if I'll shell out any more than necessary. As a matter of fact I scraped the old stickers and reg. numbers off the canoe this year. Enough is enough! ;D

Nice fish Dennis! Thanks for the report. A small drift sock from Cabelas works well on a canoe or kayak to help control wind drift. George

George I never considered that. And I've got 2 on the big boat. ;D Thank you.
