Hit the water at Appletree Bay around 6:30am. Fishing with the Homewrecker. We ran into Captain Tony just as we were setting up. He gave us a few tips on lure colors and areas that was much appreciated. The sea was a bit choppier than expected. Within a 1/2 hour we boated a 15" salmon on a Fed Ex mooselook. Around 11am we picked up another salmon about 18". It had a fresh lamprey scar and the culprit most likely came off during the fight. That came on a pearl, blue and silver lure shaped much like the Hi Tecs (not sure the manufacturer). We had only one other release, with nothing to show for it. The fish came on the downriggers at 65 feet down and approximately 15 ft back. The first fish came on a rigger without blades, the second was on a rigger with blue and silver verticles. Both fish were taken on the run north from the cowbanks to Kibbee Point. Lots of cut grass in the water which seemed to be turning into a scum line heading south to north. We seemed to see more fish in and around these "scum lines" with quite a few near the surface. I would be interested to know what those fish were??!!??

Thanks for the report fishdawg. I was out there saturday also and I saw you running the cowbanks. I gave you a shout on the radio but didn't get an answer. I also had all my releases while going North with the wind and bumps. I ended up going to the mainland side thinking I could get out of the grass and was right, no grass there! Hope to meet up with you out there sometime!!

Fishdawg I was out there too, went past you a couple times(black & tan sylvan). I marked a lot of bait, also saw the scum line and cut grass. Put in at Apple island also, had a release right after setting the first rigger but nothing. Went up to Kibbe Pt and back a couple times with nothing. Went over to Eagle Mt and again marked a lot but nothing to show for it. Had a lot of releases but not sure if it was fish or the weeds on the line. Still nice day. I would also like to know where they get their wind forecast from

Interesting about the 'scum' line...I have been seeing the same thing down here depending on the wind...
I too was wondering what the fish suspending around the lines are...

Sorry Razzle, I do have a VHF radio, but rarely turn it on. We usually listen to music on the FM radio or an IPOD (a good beat may attract the fish .

Dawg, Glad I was able to give you some information. I almost went right by you ;D. It was nice talking with you. Sounds like you had a decent trip. As you know this time of year it can be challenging. I will post reports from the past weeks soon. Thanks for your report. Looking forward to seeing you on the water soon. Capt.
