Greetings everyone,
Native flatlander living here in Northern Vermont and an avid fisherman. Just purchased a new boat and hope to really take advantage of the fantastic fishing Lake Champlain has to offer. Been in the Champlain Vallley for over 7 years and have really enjoyed the fishing. With the upgrade in boat I really am looking forward to fishing areas I never had access to with the smaller craft.
Been following the board for a bit and it seems there is a strike and retreat mentality. Tough to keep a good dialogue going with that MO. Where are the locals? There are many fishing issues to discuss including Lamprey contro, phosphorous overloading, and perch limits that I can't believe more hard core Lake Champlain fisherman don't want to vent. Like to know what other fisherman are thinking on the changing lake environment.

I've been fishing the Missisquois Bay area with a group of guys for the last 10 years, usually in June then again in September. Every time I've been there the conditions have been different. There is always an adjustment period to figure out where you can and can't go due to water level and growth conditions. But, every trip we lay into some great fish. The fishing at the end of last August was awful due to the algae bloom. We won't go back this August because of the bloom, but will check out conditions the week of June 11-18 and let you know how things are. Some warm weather is finally reaching that area and the fishing should pick up.

Jacek,
Blooms have been bad on the bay in August for the past two years, although the strong south winds and rain weather left Maquam Bay clear last summer. If your schedule is better at the end of August you may want to try the smallies in deeper water. Tubes and Carlina rigged plastics are good choices.
Can't say I have hit the larry's very hard on Missisquoi since moving up here, but would like to know what your getting them on and it what conditions. The report I get is that the fishing has picked up dramatically since that lousy May we had (cold and rainy). Last few weeks have been ideal with light winds and above average temps.
Would like to tell you that those conditions will remain for your trip, but Champlain will give you what you get and you will adjust as you always have.
Good Luck and let me know how you do.
