I will be renting a cottage on North Hero next week (week of Aug 7). This will be the first time on Lake champlain for myself. Any ideas on where to do some walleye fishing or Salmon or Laker fishing in the north part of the lake. I will be bringing my 19' Bayliner with 2 downriggers so you have an idea of my capabilities.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark, Where on North Hero are you going to be? Do you have any lake charts? For salmon you are going to want to find deep water and bait. I have caught salmon from Butler Island south to the Sandbar causeway but I have my best luck between Ball Island and Savage Island, and between Savage Island and the Milton shore. This may be a haul for you depending where you are. I have been catching salmon between 40-60' and the best lures have been small silver/blue and black/purple spoons. If you find bait you will find salmon, just watch your lines when you go through bait because there are a lot of small (10") stockers out there. For lakers you will want to be on the broad lake side (facing New York). Off the west side of Grand Isle is where I would start and head south. This time of year I fish on the bottom in 80-110' using troll blades and either a silver flutter spoon or a blue stickbait (floater so it doesn't hang on bottom). I fish lakers slow (1-1.5 mph). I have my best luck for walleyes this time of year at night. I use rebels or rapalas down about 8' on riggers or long line deep divers. I don't have a favorite spot for walleyes, some nights they are over reefs and some nights they are out in deep water. I always seem to catch a few but I never really hammer them. Good luck.

Hey Mark, Nice to see more anglers hitting Champlain. For the walleyes, try a chartuese jig head, smoke coclored grub body, chartreuse curly tail, tipped with a live minnow. I hit a 7, 11, and 13 pounder on this rig round noon in about 22 feet of water, maybe 23. For the lakers, flashy anythings will catch 'em, but I like to troll a Kastmaster way down deep.
