Will be heading up to the Swanton, VT third week of June. Have ordered a Hot Spot Map, but would like any local information on good smallmouth fishing areas. Have had good luck using a jointed shad rap, perch color on other NY lakes for smallies. Thanks

Doug,
Are you up for the Lake Champlain International (LCI)? If so, you can find them on the bottom in around 80 feet. Try using one of those beer can lures you find in Cabelas, or maybe the Homer Simpson. Deadly.
Seriously, are you up for the LCI?

No, just up for a week of fishing with my brother and some other friends from New Jersey. Fished the area last June, got lots of good size pike, but only one good size smallie. Thanks for the tip

Hey Doug,
Are you going up the week of the 13th or the 20th? The LCI that P.R. is refering to is Father's Day weekend and is when everyone and his brother and his brother's friends all head out to the lake! ;D
Needless to say, the fishing pressure is intense, to say the least. It takes a while for those fish to come back on the feed and into shallow areas like reefs and points.
As far as places to go, there are so many in the northen part of the lake, you can't fish 'em all in a summer. Your hot spot map should help you out for sure. Any area marked with rocks and reefs will have smallies nearby. Work your way in from deeper to shallower water. Tubes and cranks and topwater lures like spooks work great.
I will be fishing the week of the 13th and clearing out early on the morning the LCI starts. I can give you up-to-the-date reports if we can figure out a way to contact.
p.s. The beer can lure dives deeper than the homer one! ;D ;D ;D
later
B.W.

Thanks for info, B.W.
Will be fishing from June 24 - July 1 or 2. Have lived in Florida since retiring 17 years ago. Caught lots of largemouth down here using the same type lures. When I lived in NJ, fished Lower Saranac Lake area and Lake Ontarion each year. Love using topwater, spooks and heddons.
Sent this message twice don't think it went through the first time.

There is a boat launch next to the bridge that crosses from Alburg to Rouses Point. Just south of there is Windmill point and Windmill point reef. Those are good Smallmouth areas. Go very, very slow past that burned out RR trestle. There are submerged pilings just under the surface there. Gull Island reef just east of North Hero is also good. Most of the islands have rocky shorelines that will have smallmouth.
