I understand that there are some folks here that have an issue with Ehlers and the LCI. Let me state for the record that I respect everyone's opinion, whether I agree with it or not. I am fairly new to this board, so I would like to offer my opinion on the subject.
First, ask yourself what BASS or FLW do for Lake Champlain, try to get information on there finances. What percentage of there take is in any way invested back into any of Vermont's waters. Second, like it or not, lobbying is what makes the world go round. Unions, doctors, lawyers, business groups, you name it and they have lobbyist. Most of which are funded by dollars that are usually extorted or taken without our knowledge. There are a lot of issues near and dear to our hearts that have Ehlers finger prints on them. Lamprey control, the legislatures ploy at closing fish hatcheries, access area improvements, to name a few, and all take intense lobbying efforts. If these efforts are funded through a 3 day fishing derby then I say great. If we expect to gain anything through exchanging emails and trying to take on these issues on nights and weekends when we have a few minutes to spare, then we may as well all take up golf. I have always found James to incredibly easy to access and get information out of. I also found him to be more than willing to help out and take up a cause when appropriate. He's just an email or phone call away. Not in a Washington office insulated from the world. So for these reasons and more, I look at the LCI as money well spent. Spent on our terms, not extorted or solicited through bulk mailing. These changes to the point system have been in the works for a while, and will be in place for the 2010 derby.

Several factors contributed to the resultant values. Notably, a trending increase in average smallmouth weights, the anchor or reference point around which all other points are based, impacted virtually all species. This required upward adjustments almost across the board to “keep pace” with smallies. Other notable factors, consistent rising lake trout weights and recent gains in sheepshead weights surpassing even the smallmouth gains required downward adjustments for those species. I am happy, of course, to speak with any of our anglers who want a more in depth understanding of the statistical analysis of what amounts to thousands of caught fish weights over the past two decades, as you know. We will continue to adjust in the future as changes in the fisheries become apparent via the data as reflected by average weights, median weights and the respective standard deviations.
Please put into effect for this year’s events.
Thank you.
