...where would you go in the Peru/Plattsburgh area? I've fished Valcour a few times with limited success running Rat-L-Traps around the island. I have nephews coming from out of town that want to go fishing one day, and with the Lakers and Salmon fishing down recently, I thought Smallies would be a great alternative. Any ideas or suggestions would be great.

I would try just north of point au roche. Theres a boat launch that is not in the state park, its about 2 miles past mooney bay marina. I fish just north of the boat launch within about 100 yards of shore. I've been nailing the smallies with the senko worms. I caught about 10 two and a half to three and a half pounders on saturday.

WalleyeLJ,
Hope I'm not too late, but dtrain has the right idea. Get away from Valcour, it will just frustrate the hell out of you ( I know from experience).
Not sure about dtrains launch directions though, the launch I always used was called the "old launch" and is located just north of the state park. There are two buoy's to the east, with the furthest east (and slightly south of the 1st) marking the Au Roche reef. Big drop to deep water, so if you want to try for the lakers/salmon you are in good water.
Hope you put those boys on the fish,
