i just found out that a kid i know Matt got 2 place in Jr lake trout last year and his prize was something at key bank but he had to go to VT. to get it key bank in NY no can do. his mother never got over to VT. i was wondering why the Lci makes it so hard for them why not just mail him a decent prize. he says he is not fishing it this year sad we cannot keep young ones interest. i happen to know the guy who took him to the derby spent lots of money to fish it and the Jr he took got 2nd place to nothing.

What was the prize? Was it mailable? LCI website says he's from Lake George; it's only an hour over to Rutland...........

Bil, Sorry to hear about your troubles. Congratulations to the young angler. I have not supported the LCI in years and have no plans to do so. I hope the kid continues to enjoy the sport of fishing and can see through the fact that fishing itself is fun even more so when one is not in a tournament. Good Luck. Capt. Thats just stupid! A bank cant figure out how to drop something in the mail? The LCI board cant fix this? At a time when we need to do more to attract young people to the outdoors, things like this are awfully short sighted..........

That is one thing I really hate about tournaments is the way they always make collecting a prize such a hard thing to do. My son has one on multiple occasions and each time has been a pain to collect. He won the grand prize cold water division witch we had to travel back to Burlington to collect. Definitely worth the trip but we wanted to just pick it up the next weekend so we didn't have to take him out of school for two days and miss multiple days of work. It was kind of cool but a bit played up for the press. The first time he won second in the extraordinary class and he won a fish pole and some tackle and it took us a year of phone calls and emails to finally get the prizes. If it wasn't for knowing a few guys in high places we would of had a tougher time for sure. Just the nature of a tournament with so much going on. Just have to be prepared for this to happen. If your not in the top three or even top two in a category its not worth collecting a bunch of trinkets. I do love fishing tournaments and they can be a lot of fun. Unfortunately they have gotten to expensive for me to play in them. When it costs a couple hundred dollars to get into a tourny for the three of us. with that just being the tickets. It gets crazy real quick. sorry for the boys loss, that's the nature of the game.

It's a bummer they would do that to him, but you have to realize I'm sure getting 2nd place was a prize in it's own! At least it would be for me. Hell, even placing at all would be great, haha.
