Sleeps you got that right, a good way to piss people off is to start talking deer management. But I have learned that people have very different opinions on this subject. All of us are dedicated hunters and fisherman and most of us are good guys you can sit down and have a drink and a good time with. A voice is all we have and if you sit on the side lines while things are happening then you have no right to complain. And I agree totally , Winter is what controls our deer herd nothing else.

On the subject about tough winters, this past one was in my opinion a real tough one!!!! Thats the bad news , the good news seems to me is that the deer ive seen this spring look to be in really good shape!!!! Im sure there was a lot of winter kill but the ones that survived look to be real healthy!!!!!Sleeps

i bet the herd in the Victory deer yard has been whiped out ,,, w/ the snow and the dammed coyotes i fear for the worse ,, and we where starting to see deer again and saw the most bucks in 10 years last summer ,,,, i say a bounty or let us use "snares" on the coyotes. I feel in some of the yards that have been over browsed by moose ,, start a select cutting and replanting program,,,,,,, WW

I work nights, and I have been seeing the same 15-20 deer outside the back gate to IBM for the last 2 weeks. I agree, the ones that survived look good. Problem is, out of all those deer, I dont see a single little one. I sure hope all of last years fawns did'nt get wiped out completely. You guys are absolutely right, talking deer management is a surefire way to start an argument! I have the same fight every year with my dad and uncles at camp. They are all convinced that the reason we dont have as many deer around up there is because of the does being shot in BP. Could'nt possibly have anything to do with the fact that there are about 50 new houses in the last 20 years? Oh well, I'll still be the first in line to shoot a fat bald one every year during muzzleloader. They just taste so darn good! Overall, I think our F+W has done a pretty good job. The average size of the deer we have taken has certainly gone up in the last few years, and the buck to doe ratio seems better. I dont have a problem with passing spikes, but its hard enough checking points for 2 on a side, I'd hate to have to try and count 3! I hunt on a mountain, and theres very little open ground, and I've had to pass on several deer the last few years that were PROBABLY legal, but did'nt stand still long enough for me to be sure. Oh well, its like fishing, if it were too easy, it would'nt be so much fun!
