For the 8th year out of 9 years we are visiting the Niagara Bar fishing in the LOC tournament this upcoming week Monday - Friday. Our good friend Lazy C's will have a crew fishing all 10 days starting today. Lots of good times await. We also have some good friends from PA and NY out there plying the waters with communication being the key. I would love to have ShayeDwind's but he covers the Eastern end after Labor day and like us can't do both trips May and September anymore. So he will be our liason to communicate our daily adventures here. Thanks Don! The shootout crew in force. The fun part about this trip is each year it's something different and we like to experiment while we are out there. This year is no different. I will be deploying the regular Slide Divers (first time) and the regular Dipsies as well. Salmon Seeker (Don) and Ken my friend from childhood will be the crew. We are leaving at 6 am Sunday morning and should arrive around 4 pm to prepare for Monday am. R

Houston we have internet access.... Ken brought his laptop to keep up with work while on our trip. Arrived at 2:35 pm after 8.5 hours on the road and 450 miles. Good travel day. Went to Mike's camp and had a great dinner with the guys. It's been a very tough bite the last 3 days with boats averaging 1 King a day so far. The big issue is the mud and debris flushing out of the Niagara river the last 3 days from 85 mph winds on Thursday here. There was lots of wind damage from that storm. Rainy day forecast for tomorrow and chance of rain each day with temps in the 50s this week. The water is getting better each day as the Niagara is slowly clearing. We will wait for light before launching to avoid hitting any logs or debris. The wind forecasts seem to be good though this week. Game on! Ron

Day 1 "The Shakedown":
Hit the water at 5:30 am with a drizzle going on. A few boats ahead of us were on the pond already. Seas were fishable with a 1 foot chop. Took about a half an hour to put 2 riggers down and 4 wires in the water as it was light. The morning was very slow as it rained on and off with a cold temps around 50. We ended up quitting around 3:15 pm to dryer better conditions and we had a 3 for 6 day with 2 Coho's and pig lake trout all released. It was a much slower day than yesterday for the boats out that fished today. The water was chalky in front of the Niagara so we concentrated East in Canada today where the water had a nice green color and 47 degrees. All in all not a bad day today and we had a good shake down and hope to take what we learned and apply it tomorrow.
9 hours on the water with a 6 gallon fuel burn.
Ron

Day 2 Tuesday: Woke up to showers and hit the water a bit later today around 6:30 am which is late for us. Calm seas and 1/2" to 3/4" of rain forecasted. Put the warm clothes and rain gear on and gave it hell as it rained all day. Went 3 for 9 today all Kings that weighed 8.5 / 10.5 / 13 lbs as shiny as a new penny. The dreaded East wind kicked up from 9 am till we got blown off with 5 footers at 2 pm today. We felt fortunate to catch some Kings today with these conditions. Still workin the Canadien bite as our other haunts are still dirty with the flows coming out of the river and flowing up to Wilson and Olcott. Thru last night only 3 kings on the board in 4 days. They have to hit a minimum of 20 lbs to enter. Hope this isn't a sign the Fall bite is going to be in trouble. However, it is early to make that assumption with the late spring and dirty water messing up 2/3's of where they fish here since last Thursday's big blow. There has only been about 15 boats fishing east and west of us which pales compared to the last 9 years. I think it may be the high gas prices and the poor weather this spring that has kept away the fishermen. Supposed to blow tomorrow and hope they are wrong. We will try to get out if we can. Going over to Mikes camp for a big fish fry tonight. Smelt, walleye, stripers are the fare. Having a great time! Ron

Glad you are able to enter acurate reports. ;D
Good to see you are catching fish. You just keep picking at them and that big one is there. Use the secret (black beads) ;D ;D

Day 3 Wednesday: Ahhhhhh..... Dry weather for a change and 1 to 1.5 foot chop from the West. So nice after two days of chop, cold, and wet weather. The Digitroll finally gets to dry out on the pond as we are fishing . We hit the water for the second day in a row around 6:30 am. Seems the early bite from 5:45 am to 6:45 am has basically been a bust. As we arrive in Canadien water our PA friends who have been there for an hour get there first fish we hear on the radio. Skies are bright and semi-cloudy and we are primed to get into them today with our program. We hit 4 Kings (8-10 lbs) in the next 4 hours and the bite fizzled for us around 11:00 am. We pulled them at 12:45 pm after 6 hours and agreed it wasn't a bad day. Lazy C's had to cut there outing short around 10 am to bring two of there guests to the airport in Buffalo to fly home as they brought in triples as they worked the skinnier water 1 mile away from us. The other two will arrive tonight (mike's son and the owner of the boat Gary) and fish until Sunday with Mike's new crew. Rod is fishing all 10 days with Mike. Don the black beads are working. What a secret weapon! Thanks my friend! It's been totally a rigger bite and I have been using all 4 on the Digitroll. Regular dipsy's and Slide's have been a bust. I think I have been running them to deep. I will try higher tomorrow. Weather is looking great for our last two days and seas will be 1-3 feet with a good wind forecast. It will be nice fishing all 5 days this week. A great vacation and outstanding friends working the water and tough bite. The Niagara remains chalky running and lots of wood and logs floating out there still in places. No complaints at all. Great food again tonight at Mike's camp on the menu! Ron
