Son and I were doing some gorund fishing on Sat. and heading back in when we saw tuna breaking water. Missed getting a chance to cast to the 1st group as they were down before we got there. saw another group breaking water behind us, ran to that group. when we pulled up to stop, one surfaced right in front of the baot. Threw a popping plug to hit, gave it one twitch and FISH ON!!! Had it on for about 2 or 3 minutes and the center split ring on the plug must have straightened out or broke because it was gone. WHAT A RUSH!!!! W got a few glimpses of the fish and guess it was in the 80 to 100lb range, given the size of others that were around the boat, that is a fair estimate. Anyway, it was a huge rush to actually hook one and I am hooked as well!! Thanks to my son ( Owner of 1st Alarm Charters) for what was the thrill of a lifetime for me.

Ben, His website is www.1stalarmcharters.com. He lives in Concord NH and will be operating mostly out of Rye, NH..Hampton,NH or the Merrimack river, depends on where the fish are at the time and what he is fishing for. There is info on rates, the boat, etc on the website. He is a member of the forum.

We just set up our striper trip of Montauk in October. Fishing on a full moon, can't hurt. I do want to try for tuna again sometime. Got my bottle of wasabi and I'm ready for some sushi!

They're an incredible fish and nothing like you've ever hooked before. However, you owe them the respect of fishing with tackle capable of landing them without leaving 200 yards os line dragging behind them and a plug in their mouth. We used to fish with 50's and have bumped it up to 70's (650 yards of 80lb test). There are some small fish out ther 100-150 lb. but also some buisers and it's hard to target one without the other possibly hooking up. We had one fish in july take over 400 yards on his first run! The bottom line is don't go to a gun fight with a pea shooter...you owe them that much.
