Tule and I had a good couple days! We managed a dozen ducks with Mallards being the predominant take. A nice addition was my first Drake Gadwall in Maine. Tule (3) has turned into a fetching machine and showing some real pizzazz and intelligence. He's retreiving all the birds no matter how gnarly it gets. This morning I dumped a hen mallard about 15 feet out from the cattail edge and when the dog got close she dived and looked gone.. Tule swam downwind a bit then went into the cattails. After a couple minutes of not seeing or hearing him, I was getting nervous when I started to hear the cattails snapping and out he comes with the hen in his mouth!!! Later on, I dumped a pair of passing mallards as they streaked over the boat. I killed them on the way by and they fell into the rough stuff behind the boat. Tule had a great mark on the hen and was back with her in a flash. I sent him on a blind over into the really rough stuff and back he came with the drake! I am some pleased with his performance this season. All our work over the Winter and Spring has really paid off especially on the blinds. He has over 30 retrieves so far this season and we're just getting started. I was bumming after our south zone opener but things are starting to look up. 14 geese and 20 ducks so far this fall. Here's some highlight shots Geese piling in to roost for the night!

Nice take on the birds. Half the fun for me has always been watching the dog work.

Having a dog that works like a fine tuned clock makes all the months of training well worth while.
