After the trip last year on Fatal Attraction with Captain Brian (see link) cjohn2979.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=ontario&action=display&thread=8840 we did not think we'd have near the luck. When we booked the trip in March we threw a dart at the calendar and one of the two days was Friday the 13th. We hoped it would be bad luck for the fish and not us.
My son and I headed out early Thursday morning to meet up for the afternoon fish with Friday then being the morning fish. We took the old Military Highway from Plattsburgh and it shaved the trip to a five hour drive.
With a 1:00pm start it was hot, the lake flat and we had to pick for them. We ended up landing two nice Kings, Lost one, caught a real nice Steelhead and also released one. Catching a big King at Ontario can run over 20 minutes to land. We just can't match that type of fishing here on Champlain. (See Video) A dancing Steelhead was showing off (see video) [a href=" "] [/a]
Friday the 13th was bad luck for the fish. The sun was a red ball rising on the horizon.[a href=""][/a] [a href=""][/a] [a href=""][/a]
Doubled up at one point which was a blast while making it real interesting. fatalattractioncharters.com/images/2012%20pictures/Fishing%202012/album/slides/Fishing%202012%20068.html
Although things started off steady the morning Salmon chop on the lake died and it went flat. We picked at it and released a couple Steelhead and a Laker. There was room in the box for one more. Time was winding down and Capt Brian tried a 'less is more' strategy with the riggers. It paid off and the last fish was on and we had our limit. During both days, Capt Brian threw multiple presentations at them, varied techniques, and the efforts paid off. Word must have got out on how we were doing as other boats practicing for the upcoming weekend pro-am tournament kept contacting Captain Brian.
We had a great trip, more special memories, and once again felt lucky to have hooked up with Captain Brian.
