managed to get over to Catfish Creek Camps for a week of trying to catch fish. Accommodations and price excellent. Our goal was Steelhead . Very surprised to spend seven days from North Sandy Pond to Oswego looking for bait and fish up to 400 foot depth. No fish printing on the fish finder in any amount more than incidental. Water was averaging 58 degrees all over the area so finally I put down a Fish hawk 4 and discovered the surface temp was all the way down to at least 150 feet and beyond but my cable was only 150 feet. At 400 FOW we printed good amounts of big fish at an average of 200 feet down which we could not fish due to cable limitations. No decent pods of bait printed in the entire area except in the mouth of the Oswego river.
Very interestingly no other fishing boats in the entire area all seven days. Not one boat. My rhetorical questions was how could it be no boats at all....then we found out no bait or fish to be seen on the fish finder. Seems impossible.
We did manage several browns out deep ....at 150 feet of water on the surface . my fishing buddy martin seen with the king in this picture , got it on a lure in a nice pool . the king struck the spoon. late kings were coming into the small creeks and provided a late evening riot of power using 15 pound test. All struck our lures.
WE did a good job washing lures in the lake, hi winds and big scary waves at times for my 18 foot aqua-sport. We got wet more than once but the self bailing deck worked.
Lots of fun just the same, but I think I will stick with early may and August for visits to the big lake.
