Really nice fish Matt! Congrat's on the 1st place finish. As for 2nd, it was 6.78 and with all the hot action down south we really did not think it would hold through Sunday. Up north it was very, very slow. Slow or not, getting to spend time fishing with my son is the best. With a surface temp of 55 we figured the fish could be anywhere. After playing with Northerns and Bass, switching up and while rigged for Lakers we had what looked like a Salmon break the surface next to us. We decided to try up higher near buoys with reefs to see if we could catch something coming from deep and pinning bait on the rise. We never got close enough before to know Point Au Roche had an old stone watch tower with a light house or glass observation booth. We ran the boards with weighted keels for a little depth. They were back 80' and we were running about 2.3 - 2.5 on the GPS. Somewhere between Ozzy and a Seether tune Fish On and pumping! What it hit out of the spread was a silver and chartreuse speedy shiner. It took about 15 minutes to reel in and stayed down the whole time. Being near the reef, we thought it was decent but did not know if it was a Laker, Brown, Suspended Northern, or Walleye. We barely saw it was a Salmon before netting it. Last year we lost a really nice fish due to not testing the leader each time it goes in the water. Ironically, the rod that the fish was caught on was the only one which the leader broke and was replaced. Exiting time, got to speak with a bunch of good people at the dinner and gathering last night. Glad Jim keeps putting this on. Best of luck to all this summer! [a href=" "][/a][/url]

what was the payout for the derby for each place? A much higher percentage to the whole derby revenue than the fathers day derby...! 1st was 600 and I talked to a 2nd place guy who got 500.
