I'll post my results. I am headed to the Thompson's Point area.
Any tips?

Good luck. I fished everywhere in that area Tuesday and Wednesday and couldn't get a release but they should start biting again with some warmer weather.

3 Hours today - along Split Rock point and shoreline. Nobody. No fish. Not.
Surface temp still around 40-42. I'm new to using a fishfinder (Humminbird) - are the clumps of fish that periodically appear right on the bottom at 100-140 ft likely real, or artifact? The fact that they occur only here and there suggests they're not artifacts, and that the majority of the big salmonids are still hanging on the bottom, in pretty deep water.

My guess to what you are seeing is most likely cisco, and you are not seeing salmon on your fish finder as they are within 15 of the surface. If i was fishing that area i would look at the other side of the lake for warmer temps.

Find the water temp above 50 degrees. It was very busy with boats in that area on the weekend. The Dog bit off a nice one, possibly 24" Saturday afternoon, landed one around 19". Afternoon 2:30 to 6:30.I was using white/orange spoons, down 12 to 15 feet. Bust for me in the morning on Sunday, 3 hour troll.

Thank you Fishfarmer. Info and suggestion much appreciated. North wind later this week should bring in some warmer temps at this end of the broad lake.

I went out again on Monday. After about an hour and a half with no bites I decided to scrap salmon fishing since my time was really limited. I headed up to the Winooski River to try for walleye. I caught nothing but small bass and tons of white perch.
Does anyone here fish for walleye in the rivers? My place is farther south but I always heard that the Lamoille and Winooski were the places to be for walleye in May. I have tried a few times but never had any luck. The lower end of Champlain or even the Champlain Canal or Poultney river would be closer to me but I don't know if the south end is as good for walleye. An advice would be appreciated.

Their down here, but the pickens are slim. I heard that there was a recent stocking on the south end, but as is typical with everything on Champlain, most of the attention and investment goes north with one exception that I wont get into here. Try Benson area if you want to give it a shot. Learn to love weeds, fish during the week if you can, wait till late afternoon on weekends, and good luck.
