Hey all, I have a 1995 Mercury 175 Outboard that needs a powerhead so im told. Does anyone know of anybody that replaces these reasonable or even a good supplier of a remanufactured motor? Thanks for any help. Chad

Are you really sure it needs rebuilt? I was once told by an older marine mechanic that he "Fixes" about 4 outboards a week that need rebuilding by simply cleaning the carbs. Stuck rings and especially dirty carbs clogged with microscopic black particles of standard (non ethanol rated) fuel hose are common these days due to ethanol. I have 2 1985 mercs and was told either use ethanol free or use it and let the engine run dry before shut down. Whatever you end up doing get yourself new fuel line first and foremost as the black particulate will go past any sort of filter. The new hose says it's ethanol rated and is only $20. You can't see the goo either but it's there, the result of the inner liner breaking down microscopically . There is a form of Stabil which is rated to treat ethanol. Remember also that outboards are all notorious for coil packs going out. Just make sure that yours is really "blown" and not just needing the aforementioned. If you need a new powerhead try looking at IBOATS. I think I saw them sold there a while back but can't be sure..There was at least one mainstream online store that sold them, I can tell you at least that much.
