Hi Everybody
As many of you already know. I started up Captain Thorny,s Charter Servicel. I have had several good trips on the water this year. I am fully insured for year round trips. As my schedule and contitions allows I will be taking bookings right through November,December and January for Frostbite Salmon Trips. I do not keep my boat on a slip so I am flexible to fish from many different locations around the lake. As conditions change sometimes we change locations.
This past Wednesday I had a 4 hr charter booked out of Burlington for Laketrout. With the high south winds forecast for the day,we changed plans and went Salmon Fishing off the Sandbar. Jeff and his Daughter Sarah met Cowboy and I at the ramp at 6 am. The weather man was right on the money. The South wind came up hard just like they said it would. We had enough lee off the Sandbar to still have a comfortable ride in the Cathy- Jean. We picked away at some nice 19 to 20 inch Salmon throughout the morning along with a couple shakers. Sarah was picking out spoons with her favorite colors throughout the morning. I started to clean their catch about 930 and I warned them that as soon as I start cleaning fish we will have some more action. My knife wasn't halfway through the first fish when the corner rigger went screaming. We quickly handed the rod over to Sarah and she saw a nice Salmon jump a couple times before it was gone. I had to explain to Sarah that we can't catch them all. I finished cleaning fish and we began bringing in the spread. We had one rod left in the water and before we grab it to bring it in it takes off. After a heck of a battle with Sarah we slid the net under a beautiful, clean 22 inch Steelhead! The fish came off in the net and Sarah immediately noticed that it hit a silver and purple Speedy Shiner she had picked out! I gave the spoon to Sarah as a souvenir. A perfect end to a wonderful morning on beautiful Lake Champlain!
Enjoy the Summer and the pics.
