Hey ya'll, we're starting to get excited about our annual trip up to Lake Champlain in a couple weeks-- this will be our 6th year in a row staying in Alburg and fishing the LC Islands area for Smallmouth, Pike and Largemouth (in that order). I'll be coming up from New Orleans, my brother from Ohio and Dad from Washington DC.
As we gear up and dream of the big ones, of course we're wondering how the lake is fishing this year? What are the hot lures/colors? How has the late/harsh winter affected the fishing?
Excited to spend time together as a family; great fishing is, as we say down south, "lagniappe".

Smallies in the rivers, late spawn some largemouths but water still a little on the cool side, can't speak for northern pike as I don't really fish for them. Tons of white perch, seemed to have taken over the entire LC basin. Yellows have spawned and are back out on the flats. Salmon & lakers still on top as the thermocline hasn't set yet. Walleyes still in the rivers, late spawn. Hard to locate crappie as they're still schooling up for spawn, usual haunts seem unproductive right now.

Didn't make it that far north but just returned from fishing the southern lake area from Vergennes south about 30 miles. Largemouth were up shallow, from the bank to the inside weedline and hitting on natural shad pattern cranks. We did extremely well. Smallmouth were in 8-12' and started hitting better around June 4 on. Tubes and diving cranks in natural, perch and purple worked well. Rivers and creeks from Vergennes south all very muddy, but walleye were hitting live bait in Otter Creek. Yellow perch hitting very well, a friend of ours loaded up on them. Surface temp around Vergennes was 67F, near Ticonderoga around 74F. Good luck!
