Well I just got home and the way I feel tells me why I try to stay away from the one day suicide runs to Pulaski. Got up at 3 am, loaded up the truck. Got into Pulaski around 7:30 am. The ride was a little longer due to some spotty roads in the mountians.
Wish I could say the bite was hot and heavy but the fish never turned on today. I eneded up 2 for 3. I landed the first fish on a peach egg sac. A fairly fresh hen steelie that was 8-9 lb size. Fought hard and with the water being cold they give more of a bulldog fight then jump. There were fish stacked up pretty good in the spot but they just wouldn't bite. I also see a few more people then I thought but still not many. I fished the wires / schoolhouse pool for about 4 hours and I only had the one fish on and out of 7 people I see 4 fish landed inculding mine. I put to much time into hoping a bunch of stale fish would turn on for a bit.
I tried egg sacs, beads and 2 different color berkely trout worms bottom bounced and fished under a float.
Went to the Black hole for the last couple of hours and had pretty good luck there. I landed a beatiful 6-7 lb male brown trout still all colored up - what a fish with a nice kype and all. He hit on a pink sac. I missed 2 other bites one on a pink sac and one on a peach sac. I also lost another small brown right at the bank also on a pink sac. If your going out fish from 2A down- fresher, less pressured fish. I should have fished my normal spots down around town instead of to the old tired fish in Altmar. There are plenty of fish in the river. Anyone going out should be able to get one or 2 on, hit the right spot at the right time and you will be very happy. The water level was 750 at the dam and roughly 1200 in Pulaski. That is good water to spread the fish out, makes alot more holding spots for them.
