Just got back from 2.5 days flyfishing the Salmon River. Had good weather, although it was a little cold/windy Tues, warmed up with sunshine on Wed and then warm conitions yesterday morning. Spent most of my time in the Altmar area, mostly the Wire Hole and Schoolhouse Pool. Quite a few anglers concentrated in that area, but thats where the bite seemed best. Fishing was a bit sporadic with the bite turning on and off repeatedly. Between 2 of us, we hooked well over a dozen steelies and even managed to land a few! Most bites came on the bottom with small egg / estez patterns. Hot colors were peach, blue and pink. My partner fished a slinky rig whereas I fished a strike indicator and he had 2X as many hook-ups as myself, think I need to go back to the chuck and duck. Had a great time and got my open water fix for awhile. Lots of Snow the past few days Need my snowshoes to get to the river After losing some larger fish, this smaller one was a welcome relief, a lot easier to land and snap a photo.

ahh... the walk to the wire hole. Still easier than walking up the river. Good pics and glad you got into some fish!

Yeah that fish was real dark, musta been in there for awhile. We did witness a few "pushes" of fresh chrome on the first day we were there and those were tough fish to land, we definetly lost a couple nice ones.
I might be heading back this weekend if the weather holds up....

walking into anywhere out there after a good snow sucks.
That tree is hanging tough along that bank in the schoolhouse pool. That was alot easier to fish when that wasn't there. I don't fish up top that much anymore. April should be kick azz on the smaller tribs out there. Plenty of snow on the tug as they say.
Sounds like you had fun though - silver fish are a lot harder to land. It is just fun getting that first run when they hit, warms the mind and body right up.

Yeah that tree is still sitting on the side of the pool. My buddy climbed up on it and hooked up with a big fish but then realized it isn't a great spot to land a fish, oh well.

Hey Brooksie,
Good to see you're able to make time to get on the water with school and all. Nice looking fish! I've been doing some ice fishing down Benson way and had the pleasure of meeting Icechunk and his brood (Ice Chip is a heck of a fisherman!). I managed a 5lb walleye a few weeks back . Skiing been an interesting season with the weather going in many different directions. The guys have been asking about what you're up to. I tell them you're buried in the books. I hope to see you when you get back home this summer. I'm sure we'll get a chance to wet the lines off Split Rock at some point.
Tight lines and good luck!
Tim
