there is actually a maritime law that says you must slow down when within 200 FEET of another vessel ,anchored or otherwise,,,not only are these guys ridiculously unsafe but they are breaking the law, I'm sure the Coast guard would be interested in these guys....get pictures

I just sent a link to this thread and a note to the FLW public relations person listed on their website. I'll post their reply when (or if) I get it.

Ok, So where this video is good it does nothing to show the seriousness of this situation. My son Seamus counted 18 boats in all. At least 2 of them had to come 50 ft off our bow then turn or skip along our side in order to get to the free clam bake in Westport. With logs and trees floating everywhere I just couldn't be leave the stupidity of these anglers....... All of them, what percent of that tournament is the 18 boats representing. They all were at high speeds threading themselves through 75 boat trollings....not in the middle of the lake which was clear of boats bunt along vthe shore. If one of those morons had hit a sumerged tree and spun into my boat we all would had been killed. That many boats all doing them same thing sounds like commen practice to me! And I was there ...... So it was commen practice. 36 jack**ses. Todd

Very sorry to hear that Todd. I don't know where those guys were coming or going. The FLW Everstart Tournament up there did not start until Thursday of this past week. I can say from experience that if guys are pre-fishing that far south they will trailer their boats down that way to practice rather than running all the way down from Plattsburgh. Watching the video was very hard to see the whole situation. I am very disappointed to hear that they had a much better alternative and chose not to go that way. I still contend that the 36 jack wagons are a small percentage of the bass boats out there.

Brock, Normally i would say anything about these kind of things but I dont want any forum bass guys thinking we were just picking on Bass fishermen in general. I can only imagine that the first boat through made a bad choice then it was just follow the leader, and once they were committed it only made sense to follow through. I can tell you one thing, my boys will always remember it and i wish we had video taped it ourselves, the boys thought it was the coolest thing ever. Todd

Im a basser, and do quite a few tournys, most of them club things. I will say that many of the FLW guys are rude, and in many cases unsafe. Many of these guys are wanta-be's, and are pretty much jerks. Dont let a few bad ones spoil the barrel. Best thing to do, if you can, is get thier number and report them to the tourny director.

This controversy will go on forever I think. The only thing that will ever get some boaters, bass tournament fishermen or others that think they are the only one on the lake to give others some courtesy and maybe obey the navigation laws is some real law enforcement and tickets to violators.
Most bass boats will easily do 60 mph and more and they all want to run & gun and to be first to some spot on the water. Some fishermen are considerate while others are oblivious to their surroundings or just do not care. On Lake George there is a 45 mph maximum speed limit during daylight hours and a 25 mph limit other hours. Has anyone seen bass boats or others with speed boats obey the speed limit. No not usually unless they might be in the most southern part of the lake where the patrols are patrolling on busy weekends.

I took a day off from work in March a couple years ago to fish a lake in south eastern MA. I get there to find that the single lane ramp has a trailer backed down into the water and truck parked right in the middle of the ramp like what you have described. I got there at 7:00am and had to wait until 9:20am for him to come back in (I drove many hours to get there and it was a vacation day so I wasn't giving up)...I don't normally get upset with too many people and usually just try to go with the flow. In this case I couldn't do that While I was screaming at him all he could say was "I didn't think anyone else would want to use the ramp". Must be nice to live in a world where everything was built just for you.

im not trying to start a fite here or anyting, but that video doesnt seem as bad as the situation that was first discribed. the way I see it is that the bass boat passed between the trolling boat and the shore, probably because the bass boat driver didnt want to go behind and risk cutting into lines out back. he doesnt know if there are long flatlines out behind. in that respect, the safest place to cross a trolling boat thats going slow is to go in front of them. estimating distances over water can be decieving but i bet the bass boat was more than 50 feet away from the troling boat. the boat that the video was shot from was trolling behind the visible trolling boat, and was trolling in the same direction. if there were another 6 or 8 boats trolling in the "fleet", as it was said, then since they werent visible on the video, they must have been further out into the lake and behind both the visible boat and the camera boat - probably spread out in a large area, so that they dont tangle up with each other when troliing. although i dont own a bass boat, from viewing the video, i think if i was driving, that would have been the route i would have taken too - i think this guy did the best he could, trying to get through a pack of trollers in the middle of the lake

Harkness if you were there, you would have agreed it was unsafe and uncalled for... If not, I hope you don't have a boat.
